Getting started tutorials?

Hi --

I just got started learning this amazing piece of software, however, I was struck with the fact that I couldn't find any 'getting started' tutorials anywhere. I'm going to be doing a lot of testing and bug reporting on this, but I need to get started with the basics, first. Like, how do you set things up so that feedback is faster? Godrays, for example, takes progressively longer with each tweak to show results. Clearly, I'm not setting something up right.

Any tutorials - written or video - that anyone can guide me towards would be lovely and much appreciated.
