Wow...criticizing the overweight for their obesity does absolutely nothing to make them lose weight. Go figure.

Freedom, however, is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. Freedom is but the negative aspect of the whole phenomenon whose positive aspect is responsibleness. In fact, freedom is in danger of degenerating into mere arbitrariness unless it is lived in terms of responsibleness. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on
the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.

gee- who knew?   Also an article you sent another time (or someone did) had what I think was a duh in it but seems totally not to be- when someone says how they feel (fat, out of shape, etc) and you basically dismiss it by saying "stop you're not you're beautiful... etc"   isn't helpful either.

Totally awesome thing my boyfriend said to me about three months ago:

So yeah, they are out there (and when he writes his relationship guide for men, there will be many, many more of them.)

the TOP END weight for somebody my height according to the BMI is 141 pounds. I would look absolutely ridiculous if I weighed that little.

they used to do the BMI with bone structure included. I've got very large bones (if you're a woman, put your wrist next to mine at some point and you will see what I'm talking about). I can't even imagine being 15 pounds less than I am now.

I often see men make statements like, "I would never date anyone who weighs over 130 pounds." Yeah, if your masculinity hangs on being so much bigger and stronger than your partner, then I really don't want to date you. Not to mention the fact that tiny, waifish women are getting harder and harder to come by.

I'm pretty damn happy with how my body looks right now, though I'm still trying to get down another 5 pounds or so. I'm right in between a size 10 and a size 8, so it would be good to be in one spot or the other.

btw, happy Monday! We're down to our last two days together. I hope you had a fantastic weekend and that your week is off to a great start!

I think also the perception of what people weigh is just wrong because women lie and have lied forever...  My boyfriend the other day said something about my weekly goal weight being 118?  Because he has no idea what real actual womens'  weight is-  he thinks I weigh 120- which is not the case. (he also doesn't CARE- he told me that even though I didn't lose pounds really he can tell a change and that I look trimmer all around, but that if I gained it back- so what, as long as I'm having fun and happy he likes how I look)   I think he's just used to women saying they weigh 105 or something like that, no matter what they weigh.  I used to think that a thin person weighed 105 no matter what, and so was embarrassed when I was SUPER thin and weighed 120- so I lied too- to everyone including the DMV.      I found this online telling me what my ideal is:
Based on the Robinson formula (1983), your ideal weight is 126.8 lbs
Based on the Miller formula (1983), your ideal weight is 132.1 lbs
Based on the Devine formula (1974), your ideal weight is 125.7 lbs
Based on the Hamwi formula (1964), your ideal weight is 124.6 lbs
Based on the healthy BMI recommendation, your recommended weight is 111.2 lbs - 150.2 lbs
I have a small bone structure but I don't think I could EVER get to 111 again, unless maybe I cut off an arm.

Based on the Robinson formula (1983), your ideal weight is 119.3 lbs
Based on the Miller formula (1983), your ideal weight is 126.1 lbs
Based on the Devine formula (1974), your ideal weight is 115.5 lbs

I am convinced that the BMI is absolutely inaccurate. If you are well muscled and have normal range body fat there is no way that you will fit into the standard BMI ranges. It's a stupid number that doesn't consider muscle mass, body fat ratios nor of any thing else of healthy importance. Which would you rather be? 150 with 18% (min healthy for a female) body fat or 115 with 40% body fat? Both are possible and one is unhealthy for any age but fits in the BMI index. Hell, 150 with 30% body fat is in the healthy range.

Based on the Robinson formula (1983), your ideal weight is 123.0 lbs
Based on the Miller formula (1983), your ideal weight is 129.1 lbs
Based on the Devine formula (1974), your ideal weight is 120.6 lbs
Based on the Hamwi formula (1964), your ideal weight is 119.7 lbs
Based on the healthy BMI recommendation, your recommended weight is 107.8 lbs - 145.6 lbs

All of these are too light for me. My grandmother (who I look almost *exactly* like) died weighing around 145. And she was so tiny. She weighed something like 170-180 all of her life if I am remembering correctly. She lived to be in her 90's. I am convinced she should never have gotten down to that weight. I'm shooting for 175. If I get down into 165-170, I seriously hope I look good and feel good. I'm 183 right now and I'm okay with losing another 10#. But after that, we'll see.

PS and BTW, why the hell are we using formulas from 1964-83? Twiggy? Heroin chic? Ana? Just say no. I'd like to see healthy bodies, please.

You peeps (yes, I did just say that. I'm so cool. *facepalm*) should definitely get the scale we have. According to BMI, I am juuuust barely scraping the top of "healthy". (I'm 5'7" and between 155-151 pounds.) However, according to our bathroom scale (which measures fat, muscle, and water % as well as bone weight), I am in the healthy range for everything except bone but whatever. In the case of fat, women have to be 21-33% fat to be healthy. I am around 25% fat, which is exactly in the range for fat. Mom (Andrea) is somewhere around 35 % percent fat, which means instead if obese like the BMI range says she is, she's somewhat overweight (and if she loses something like 2 pounds of fat, she'll be in the healthy range). So yes. If anyone wants a link to the scale, I'll find it for you.
