This is an interesting site regarding the history of the development of tequila. Would like to try Pulque. It sounds interesting and is the father of tequila.

Freedom, however, is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. Freedom is but the negative aspect of the whole phenomenon whose positive aspect is responsibleness. In fact, freedom is in danger of degenerating into mere arbitrariness unless it is lived in terms of responsibleness. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on
the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.

Patron Silver

Patron Silver? You are in one of the best markets for estate single barrel/batch markets in the country. They are like experiencing single malt whiskies. Patron is owned by Seagrams and while it's 100% blue agave that doesn't mean that it's not blended like Crown Royal. To experience the real character of tequila one needs to taste the single batch tequilas. They all will have different flavors and characters. If you want to taste and smell the real essence you must drink Blanco. It is unadulterated in all aspects. "Stay thirsty my friend."

I agree with you, Dad. The estate tequilas are hella good. And yes, indeed. Stay thirsty my friend. I'll bring you some when I visit next. Or maybe you can come down and we'll go "shopping"? ;) <3

Better? Single Estate. With fresh coconut and a homemade simple syrup with ice made from filtered water.

Oh wait. You were being a smart ass....

Answer: Whatever you have on hand. ;)

Best Answer: Use a good quality tequila so you don't suffer so much the next day. Don't waste your money on pouring really awesome tequila into simple sugar syrups and flavorings with ice. You won't get the full experience of the tequila. Best way (IMO) to serve single estate is shaken in a martini shaker with ice and poured into a small glass with a stem and sip, breathe, purr.

I don't know why but tequila alcohol doesn't affect my blood sugar levels like other liquors. Beer is a definite no. One bottle of any beer will assault my sugar level (makes it go to hell in a hand basket). Hard liquors, whiskey and scotch, raise my sugar levels the next day noticeably. I can consume tequila (up to 1/2 of a fifth) with impunity once a week. If I consume more reasonable amounts I can consume it twice a week. I can go on short binges (2 or 3 days) and not experience a noticeable blood sugar rise the next morning. There has to be something in the alcohol chemistry that allows this phenomenon  I celebrate life and don't question it.
I have always had a strong love affair with tequila, I started drinking it when I was 17. I was near the Mexican border, I was a poor college student, tequila was cheap. I experimented with many different brands (they were all cheap) and found many that were extremely flavorful when sipped. There were many different tastes and one could have whatever the mood or occasion was. I had to not drink tequila for many years as the good tequilas were not available very far from the border. That has changed over the years (especially when Andrea & John moved to Sugarland in the early 90's). Today one can have very good tequilas country wide. However, the variety diminishes as one gets farther from the border. South and southwest Texas does not know how fortunate it is. Viva la tequila!
Andrea, I will make the trip. Name the day!

Man I hate getting caught in the rain. And I also hate rum. So you don't have to hide it from this girl.

I am not a cocktail grrl! Lol if it doesn't taste good straight, I'm not interested. I don't even really like mojitos. Sp?

As far as I'm concerned, if you are dead set on mixing tequila just use a decent bar tequila. Hornitos or Jose Quervo bottom end is fine. Just remember this neophytes, Mixing anything with hard liquors especially carbonated or sweet causes HANGOVERS! Straight or with water can do you in, but the illness is much reduced.

Could have fooled me. Rum, whatever, I don't mix. There are some excellent sipping rums out there. That is my brothers liquor of choice. Rum in a glass.

If you want the ultimate in tequila drinking this site has a stemware that was commissioned by The National Chamber of the Tequila Industry and The Regulatory Council of Tequila. It is manufactured by Riedel. The glass is called "Tequila", stock # 408/18. I have a set. Bought them years ago and never regretted the cost.

I'm going back to the glasses post-  Riedel makes the best glasses for everything-  they make awesome wine glasses which is my drink of choice..   You can get a cheaper version of Reidel at target... though still not CHEAP.  Also Spiegelau makes great drinkin glassware...  yes gold plated bong-  and it's Snoop Lion now-  don't forget.

Roze,
I went to the Spiegelau site. It appears that it is a part of Riedle. However, there is a stemware that appears to be very similar to the tequila glass. It is about 1/2 the price. SKU 4090187. I have the tequila stems. Would like to be able to set them side by side.

yeah they are just a less expensive but very nice part of Riedel. I
have a bunch of their wine glasses. I'm a snob but one with a lower
budget, and they are still very very nice glasses. I recommend!
