Hi guys,

I help organize for the local CodeforAmerica Brigade Chapter CodeforhamptonRoads

I wanted to talk to you guys about National Day of Civic Hacking. NDOCH is a day established by the whitehouse open science and technology policy to encourage citizens to use public data and technology to build tools for their local neighborhoods.

We're looking to have an event Saturday May 31st at the Virginia Beach Central Library.
We're hoping to make it a hands on and skills based learning day where participants are encouraged to try to use and learn about technology to enact change in their communities.

We're looking for skills based mentors and possible workshop speakers to facilitate an informal type of hackathon and learning atmosphere. (examples would be: html/css/js basics, rails up and running, or intro to github)

We're partnering with other local user groups and our tentative theme right now is Using technology to battle Climate Change.

If anyone is interested or available in speaking/mentoring/participating feel free to msg me or sign up here. http://hrva.eventbrite.com

Any questions inbox myself
Best,

Stanley,

I'd love to help with this but as of right now I'm completely swamped. When do we have to let you know by?

Bests,

Hey Ryan

Thanks for the interest. 2 Weeks out is great from May 31st for speaking. Any intro to intermediary 'up and running' topics condensed down would be major pluses.

For mentoring or participating any time up to the event.

We're working with the City of Norfolk, UXPA, VB TCC, and NorfolkJS for a day of learning and actionability about using technology to help solved problems in the climate change and environmental realm.

This will be a free event and hopefully more details blasted out soon

Hey Stanley,

I would love to speak at that event -- unfortunately I am moving that weekend :(
Keep me in the loop for any future Civic hacking events though!

Stanley,

I've got to bail too. I forgot I was supposed to be at a conference that weekend.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help promote it.

Thats fine. Thank you all for getting back to me.

I'm currently promoting the soft-kick off of the event at the next NorfolkJS Meetup.

Encouraging developers to head to our talk on Leaflet and PostGIS will be a perfect segway into the event.
http://www.meetup.com/NorfolkJS/events/178440172/

Also registration is available at: I hope to make it accessible to the general public and have workshops for exposure for anyone to get involved in civic hacking. From intro to git and html to web scrapping workshop.

Feel free to refer anyone interested in civic hacking or climatechange & technology to me.

I'm always reachable at szh...@codeforamerica.org
