It looks like the include folders were not updated

The custom target creates lib\vc_dll and lib\vc_x64_dll,
But the bulb checks for lib\vc_mswu{d}dll

The _custom_build project copies include/wx/msw/setup.h to lib/vc_{x64}{_dll/_lib}/mswu{d}/wx/setup.h
Somehow this fails for you. Does the file exist? Do you/msvs have read/write permissions? Do you use modified properties or wx_local.props?
Are you doing a clean build with the correct sources?

Also sharing just the first error is enough, no need to add hundreds of lines with the same error message.

in the 3.3.2 it was to copy include\wx\msw\setup.h to libvc\mswu{d}dll
for 32 bit compilation.
It los lie now iit changed.

For a long time my upgrading process was:
a. Delete everything from c:\wxWidgets
b. Unacl new release archive into c:\wxWidgets
c. Open wx_vc15.sln
d. Build->Batch Build

As you can see no properties file is used.

With recent releases I have to skip all ARM-based builds and select the DLL
projects only.

I'll try to redo the build from scratch to answer the first question.
Second question - c\wxWdgets does have write permission.

To my surprise even if i copy setup.h over the build still fails with the same "cant find setup.h" error.

I have no idea why it fails. Nothing has changed in the project files.
I don't think there ever was a 3rdparty subproject. Only the CMake generated projects have a 'Third party libraries' sub-folder.

Do you have any wx specific environment variables that override stuff?

Does it work if you revert back to the 3.3.2 sources?
What source do you use, I tried wxWidgets-3.3.3.zip from the GitHub release and it works fine with VS2022.

You could try to add more verbose output, maybe it has some hints to what goes wrong.
In Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions -> Build and Run.
Change "MSBuild project build output verbosity" to Detailed.
Rebuild the _custom_build project and analyze the log.

I don't think there ever was a 3rdparty subproject. Only the CMake generated projects have a 'Third party libraries' sub-folder.

Do you have any wx specific environment variables that override stuff?

Yes I do.

I define WXWIN as C:\wxWidgets in order to compile my code.



Does it work if you revert back to the 3.3.2 sources?
What source do you use, I tried wxWidgets-3.3.3.zip from the GitHub release and it works fine with VS2022.

I downloaded the archive from the “Download” page from the site.



You could try to add more verbose output, maybe it has some hints to what goes wrong.
In Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions -> Build and Run.
Change "MSBuild project build output verbosity" to Detailed.
Rebuild the _custom_build project and analyze the log.

I guess it’s time to do that.

Have you retried with 3.3.2?

Does your copy command work, or do you have a different copy executable in your path?
Is the file copied of you manually run the command in cmd/powershell, from the build\msw directory:
(note the target lib\vc_dll\mswud\wx folder must exist)
copy "C:\wxWidgets\include\wx\msw\setup.h" ..\..\lib\vc_dll\mswud\wx\setup.h
