McFarland about 1871 before his first child was born. William is
listed on the Choctaw Census 1885 Card #2473 and listed as Choctaw

Dec 1887. All these children where born in Skullyville CO, I.T. (OK).
Many died young in OK. Nancy's parents came from the Ashley CO, AR
area where I believe she was born. Hope someone can help me with this

Hi Georgann,

It's good to hear from you.  I don't know if would remember me as Beth Howser or Beth Walton.

For a long time I thought that (my line) Maj. Jacob Womack and Sarah Johnson's granddaughter, through their son and his wife, Jesse Womack and Chloe Fraley, Phoebe Womack married Joseph Riddle, a Choctaw, but our webmaster and Womack DNA administrator Robert Burke shared better information with us on here.

I have Phoebe Womack, her husband, Joseph Riddle and their daughter Betsy's memorials on findagrave.com.

Phoebe (Womack) Riddle was most likely the daughter of Sarah (Walker) Dent Womack and Richard Womack, son of Phoebe (MNU) and Jesse Womack, son of Ann "Nancy" Childers/Childress and Richard Womack, III.  This Jesse Womack was Maj. Jacob Womack's brother.

Phoebe (Womack) Riddle was born ca. 1820 in Womack Hill, Choctaw Co., AL and died ca. 1859 in Indian Territory.  According to some family trees, Joseph Riddle was born ca. 1803 in (Choctaw Nation East) Mississippi and died 7 Feb 1855 in Le Flore Co., OK.

Phoebe and Joseph moved to Cameron, Choctaw Nation - present-day Cameron, Le Flore Co., OK. It is not known if their son, Moses Riddle were born in Choctaw Nation, Mississippi or Cameron, Choctaw Nation - present-day Cameron, Le Flore Co., OK.

Phoebe was registered with the Choctaw Nation as intermarried White, a non-citizen of the Choctaw. Their son, Moses Riddle is missing from the census below.

1855 Sans Bois County, Choctaw Nation, IT Census
Joseph Riddle
Feebe Riddle
Jesse Riddle
Betsy Riddle
William Riddle

Elizabeth Laura "Betsy" Riddle married Thomas Wall 5 May 1869 in present-day Cameron, Le Flore Co., OK.  She was born 12 Jan 1848 in Indian Territory, died 9 Mar 1916 in Poteau, Le Flore Co., and is buried in WALLS Cemetery - most likely on their property. And their surname was Wall ?

Someone has a memorial on findagrave.com for Nancy "Nannie" McFarland's husband, William WAMMACK, born Oct 1840, died 18 Apr 1887 and is buried in Cariker Cemetery in Bokoshe, Le Flore Co.  Graveside Details:  Listed in LeFlore CO, OK Cem Vol 5 - Bokoshe.

The person who has his memorial has his daughter Ida (Womack) Maxwell and recognizes her maiden name was Womack.  He also had Nannie and William's daughter Ada Belle, and he has spelled her surname WOMMACK.

Hi Katie,

You wrote the magic word - Pryor!  For a minute I wasn't sure which one of John Henry Pryor and Margaret Gaines' daughters you descend from - Lucy (nee Pryor) Tapley (widow of Hosea Tapley), who married 2nd John Womack or Mildred Womack, who married David Womack.

There is a land or court record of John Womack and David Womack's brother, (my line) Jacob Womack and Hosea Tapley together.  It was probably in the part of Orange Co., NC that became Caswell Co. in 1777.

On his Pre-1851 US Womack Identification Project, our webmaster and the Womack DNA administrator, Robert Burke has for your Henry Pryor Womack, who was counted on the 1850 Livingston Parish, LA census:

Henry (wife Mary Ann Hill) >> Abner >> David >> Richard

Henry Pryor Womack and Mary Ann Hill married 20 Nov 1838 in St. Helena Parish, LA.

In Robert's census identification, Richard is Richard Womack, III, whose wife was Ann "Nancy" Childers/Childress.  His son, David Womack married Mildred Pryor.

Because we can't prove that our Womack progenitor was the son of the immigrant William Womack, our line begins with Richard Womack, Sr.

Your descending Womack line:

Richard Womack, Sr.- Mary Puckett
Richard Womack, Jr. - Elizabeth  (maybe Puckett, but no proof of her maiden name)
Richard Womack, III - Ann "Nancy" Childers
David Womack - Mildred Pryor
Abner Womack - Celia Ann Herron
Henry Pryor Womack  - Mary Ann Hill
Elliott Mansel Womack - Annie Syvilla Lambert
Ernest Ad Womack - Ada Olivia Rushing.

The Christian name Mansel runs in our line of Womacks.

Ernest's 16 Oct 1940 Walthall Co., MS WW II draft card has he was born in Lawrence, MS, and he meant Lawrence Co., MS.

Yes!  This is right compared to what the research has been found within my family. Just can get any further back, which has been the problem. I didn’t know if anyone had been able reach back any further with ship logs or whatnot.  Thank you!

Hi Georgann,

The way I understand it, Nancy "Nannie" McFarland's mother Ophelia (Taylor) McFarland was 100% Choctaw.

Nannie intermarried with a White man.  Her children's NA cards are based on her Native American heritage and not their father's.  Am I correct?

On his FAG memorial, William Womack was born Oct 1840 and passed away 18 Apr 1887.  Is that information in a Bible or other family record?  He was old enough to have served in the Civil War (1861-1865).

1885 U.S., Indian Census Rolls, 1885-1940
1885
Wm Womack, age 49 (on the right) "Doubtful citizen by marriage"
Nancy 37
William 14
Ida 12
George 10
Lee 7  (died 2 Dec 1901)
Ada 5
Jennie 3
Henry 3 months

The 1900 census shows Nannie was divorced from Mr. Thompson. She had given birth to 11 children and seven were living.  She could read, but she couldn't write, so she had no way of personally recording family history.  The census image has they were Indian (Native American)

In "Special Inquiries Relating To Indians":
Nannie Thompson - 1/2 Choctaw

Nancy "Nannie" McFarland and her unmarried Womack children:

1900 Township 10, Bokoshe, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (modern-day Le Flore Co., OK)
Household #285
Nannie Thompson, age 47, born Oct 1852 Arkansas; Father SC; Mother: MS
George Womack, age 24, born Oct 1875 IT; Father: Ohio; Mother: Arkansas
Lee Womack, age 21, born Nov 1878 IT; Father: Ohio; Mother: Arkansas
Cubbie, age 12, born Dec 1887 IT; Father: Ohio; Mother: Arkansas

On the 1900 census Ida Rose (Womack) Maxwell didn't know where her father was born. In 1910 he was born in Arkansas.

Hi Georgann,

Are you a descendant of this William Womack?

You could try taking an Autosomal DNA test from Ancestry or Family Tree DNA.   This is different than the Y-DNA tests we took for our Womack surname DNA tests - http://womackgen.com/dna/index.html

If have other living descendants of William Womack who are a generation or 2 closer (a living parent or grandparent), it would be even better if they took the test.  Autosomal DNA from an ancestor gets divided each generation, so the closer to William, the better.

Autosomal DNA tests can show relations 5 or 6 generations back with varying probabilities that a another person is a distant cousin.  You may find another Womack you are related to, and that could help narrow your search.  Nothing guaranteed of course, but it might help.

-Robert
