Greetings Ops folk -

I am Joann Keesey's wife Betty writing to you from Joann's account. You haven't heard from her in several months because in May she had a stroke which permanently damaged her short-term memory. She is now in assisted living memory care. She will no longer be responding to help with Ops issues or subbing (she hadn't been able to do the latter since breaking an ankle a year ago since the stairs to the studio were a barrier).

Joann had great fun DJing and assisting with the station for nearly 20 years - thank you for that. I suspect if she had a final message to you it would be "don't forget to pick up the studio mail at the post office occasionally" as she used to do that.

Oh no.  I’m so sorry.  My best hopes for a speedy recovery.

Be well.

Hi Betty,

Thanks for letting us know about Joann. I'm very sorry to hear about her stroke.

I had the pleasure of working with and getting to know Joann during my time at the station (2007-2011). Joann's contributions to the station over the years have been significant. Gmail tells me I have over 500 emails from Joann herself across the various MFO mailing lists over the past 20 years, and I'm sure that's an undercount of all of the work she did. I really appreciate all of the time Joann put in over the years supporting the music department, dealing with the US Postal Service (an unenviable, yet critical, task), hosting "Something About the Women," and generally helping out around the station with whatever needed to be done. She was a most excellent WMFO community member, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to get to know her.

Please send her my best. I'll be thinking about both of you.

Sincerely,
Andy Sayler
Former WMFO General Manager
