Hi Neighbors,

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who makes built-in cabinets/shelving?

hi Ann -

Here is someone to try.  I have not worked with Boris directly but have seen his work and it seems very solid.  Boris' self-description is below. He does custom woodwork as well as offering lessons in woodworking and home repair for those interested in learning how to do it themselves.

Good luck!
Michelle

Licensed unrestricted construction supervisor experienced in all fields of construction with over 40 years of experience.  Povides services in all types of home repair, furniture making, and home remodeling and construction. Work is not limited to general construction: i.e., besides general construction, including electrical and plumbing, I can also perform finish with trim carpentry, cabinet making and all types of woodworking.  Work only in Newton, Wellesley and Dover (sorry- no trips into Boston ). Reliable, dependable and honest hard work. I have a permanent crew for construction, while furniture building is my family business since 1974.   I also conduct classes on woodworking and home improvement.

Here are a few specific services in addition to construction:

-Custom furniture, shelving, desks, dressers, entertainment centers, beds, tables, built-ins and storage:
Consider a customized bookshelf.  Shelving does not take much flooring space by naturally providing vertical compact storage, and almost every house can find some room on the wall with a small footprint on the floor. Each shelf can be built to your design and personal taste in almost any dimensions you prefer. It could be a small unit for tall and wide children's books or as large as a 24-foot wall unit that includes an entertainment center. The choice of wood and finish is yours along with the spacing between the shelves and the number of adjustable shelves.  You can order any type/ style shelving of any dimension and design.

-Woodworking and Home Repair Lessons

Ever wanted to build a special gift for your loved one, but didn't know how? Have a houseful of projects to complete, but not the skills to start?  Licensed contractor, unrestricted in all trades and professional custom furniture builder can help.  Lessons available in:

WOODWORKING LESSONS

With one- on- one teaching you'll learn the basics of woodworking and construct your very own piece by your design and specs. It could be as simple as a bookshelf or more elaborate- a computer desk of your own size (your choice of the subject/ project). Students select their choice of wood, color and finish. Classes can be held at your location. Groups are limited to two for safety reasons.

DIY HOME REPAIR LESSONS

After learning about safety and theory, you will be getting guidance on any of the "problematic projects" in your house: i.e. leaking faucet, window replacement, built in closet organizer, re-shingling of your roof, repairing of a sticky lock etc. You are assisted and supervised every step of the process along with getting instructions and help in any aspect and detail. After the project is completed to your satisfaction, you can easily tell that it had been done with your own hands (and it will be true), while you gain knowledge as well. These classes are held at your home and are limited to one person or one couple for safety reasons.

In any of these two classes the project will turn out to be much cheaper at the end, than with hiring someone to perform the task. But the main goal is getting satisfaction of what you can accomplish yourself, and learning the skill to do it yourself next time!

This is ages ago, 1997, but Paul Marquis from Watertown did a great job building built in bookcases for me on two adjacent walls in a room, so going around a corner, with adjustable shelves above, and cabinets below, with adjustable shelves inside the cabinets. He matched the style of my picture moldings for the moldings along the tops. Back then anyway, his address was 12 Summit Rd Watertown, and phone was 923-2246.
