It will go officially online some time after lunch. Don't worry, there
will be an announcement.

After multiple attempts I am still getting a connection timeout from the pre-course survey link.

Also, video course 1.2 mentions activities to be carried out prior to watching the 1.3 video, but there are no links given. Have I missed something?

I just completed the survey without any hiccups. Was very responsive.

What URL did you use?
https://weka.waikato.ac.nz/dataminingwithweka/assessment?name=Pre

After entering class 1 (or any other class), you get a navigation menu
for the whole class on the left-hand side, listing all lessons and
activities. As you can see from the attached screenshot, each lesson
has an activity following the lesson's video. You can also navigate
the class using the "Previous page" and "Next page" buttons at the
bottom.

Just to let you know that for specific browser, the Pre-survey and Activities does NOT work properly.
Since I'm I Chinese student in US, I use 'Sougou browser' as a habit. However, the pre-survey can not be open by the browser and if I finish activity 1 by using 'Sougou', I can't see the check answer button and it's still recorded as 'not yet start'.

Make sure you don't have that problem.

Started this course today. Had a straight run till I finished all the lessons and activities. Thus far it has been smooth sailing wrt these items. Bit of an issue on supplementary reading via web. But I have got a second edition of this book (Hoping that is OK!).
FYI: Platform: Ubuntu 13.04 Firefox 23.

Big thanks to Prof. Witten and all the support staff for putting this together. Will recommend it to others.
Cheers!

P.S. Nice music! Nice to know Prof. Witten is playing too!

Likewise, working through the course this afternoon.  No issues, OSX 10.8.4 using Chrome.

Explanations and activities clear.

Cheers, Stephen.

Hi Peter

I have watched the Intro video on youtube, but I don't seem to get the navigation pane on the left hand side. Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you watching the videos straight on Youtube or are you actually
using the course's website at https://weka.waikato.ac.nz/ ?
The course only embeds the videos hosted on Youtube.

I enrolled in the course but unfortunatelly a field trip came up and I won't be able to watch all the classes on time. Will the videos and course material be available after the course is finished? Or will there be a second offering of the course?

Thanks
Daniel

Videos and slides will be still available once the course finishes.
The actual course with its activities and assessments will be taken
offline, however, due to fixed running costs. As of now, no decision
has been made whether the course will get offered a second time.

Thanks Peter, I'll try to complete as much as I can before my travel.

What is the final date for taking the mid-course assessment?

The same as for the final assessment: October 20th.
We'll put that information on the start page as well.

For offline use, we've created a new website listing all the videos,
slides, transcripts and captions. It is linked from the course's start
page, under the "Course Material" section, called "Download course
material".

Here is a direct link:
http://www.cs.waikato.ac.nz/ml/weka/mooc/dataminingwithweka/

This website will get updated each week, whenever a class is made available.

Thanks for offering the course first of all, very helpful! Second, thanks for answering very patiently the questions in the forum... some of them, let´s just say, very entertaining :)

Here my question: can you clarify a "pass" of the assessments? Is there a certain percentage that needs to be reached, and how does it distribute between the mid and post course assessment.

Many thanks!

A: Yes, a statement of completion will be distributed as a PDF for those students who pass the assessments."

1/3 mid, 2/3 final. Overall you need 70% to pass. Ian covers that in
the trailer video. I'll be adding that to the FAQ as well.

hello, i am new to the discussion forum. i missed the online classes because i recently joined the group. So, i want to focus on the data mining and machine learning algorithms. I do not have much knowledge about the data mining and Artificial Intelligence but i am very much interested in learning these things. How can i cover the recent lectures and can i be provide feed back if any problem arise.

The course stays open till the October 20, i.e., till then you can do
the activities.

Here's how to obtain answers to your questions:
- have a look at the relevant chapters in the Data Mining book
- watch the "Questions answered" videos - you can find the links under
the "Course Material" section on the course overview page
- search this forum - chances are, that your question has been answered before
- still haven't found the answer? then post your question to this forum

The MOOC has now finished. The appropriate place to ask Weka-related questions in the Weka mailing list, at http://weka.wikispaces.com/Weka+Mailing+List
cheers
