Did anyone else notice that this year’s level of firework explosion noise was much louder than previous years? I understand the organizer of the display announced this was going to be the case before the 4th, but I doubt any of us dog owners realized it was going to be as intense as it was. Why did the organizer think louder was better??? Not only dogs suffered, but all our animals, children, and adults who were unable to sleep through the hour of intense noise were also affected.

I think it makes sense for those of us who are concerned to contact our City Council representatives right now and ask that this type of fireworks not be allowed next year. Our Southtown City Council person is Jim Moorefield. You can write to Jim at jim.moo...@corvallisoregon.gov or write to the entire city council at city.c...@corvallisoregon.gov Thanks.

Earlier this year the City Council briefly discussed the idea of a fireworks ban within city limits, but they chose to not pursue it. Sorry I don’t recall which Councilor brought it forward for discussion, or when that was, but there is a recording of it and your rep might recall the month it was discussed or who brought it forward.  I have long wanted to work on getting a city ordinance banning fireworks, particularly the noisy ones, or at least personal use of fireworks. There is plenty of evidence to support such a ban, but its a lot of work pulling together a convincing, evidence-based proposal. If a few people were interested in working on this together and sincerely sharing the workload, I would be interested in participating.
