A new autumn fawn

We returned from a trip today to see this young mom and her new fawn in our back yard. September is not a normal time for deer to foal. I am fearful for this little one’s life as cold weather sets in and greenery is not available. He/she is very tiny.

I think we all received a questionnaire from the city about the deer population in our area. We did. I have not heard anything since about various ways of controlling the population in areas where there are no predators. Have you? Isn’t it better to control reproduction than to watch animals starve and become diseased or hit by cars? It’s hard to watch.

Yes, Ellie, they have been in my yard too. I agree with you about controlling reproduction. I hope we can move forward on this. They are very vulnerable.
