Hi all,

I went for a hike around Shelburne Pond and checked out the ice. I didn’t venture out far but it looks like the pond is fully frozen over. And the ice by the boat launch was at least three inches thick. It’s pebbled from yesterday’s freezing rain and has a dusting of snow on top and will likely have a bit more before long.

I suspect it won’t be green skating unless there’s a thaw and re-freeze.

Cheers,
Kitty

Diana Hanks and I skated Shelburne Pond with full dry suits and safety gear this morning. We skated along close to the southern shore where the ice was maybe a 7 in a lot of spots. Anytime we checked towards the center of the pond or went north, we encountered plates that were significantly thinner (like 1 inch). Given the 1-2 inches of snow cover making it very challenging to read the ice, this is definitely marginal ice and I would not skate it without an experienced partner and a everyone wearing dry suits.

Going to skate the intervale sea caves in Burlington now, which I heard were good but still with a snow cover.

Checked out Shelburne Pond yesterday (Wednesday) mid day.
Snow covered with about a 1/4 - 1/2”:.  Could see some skate tracks on the along the southern edge.
I took a pass, as I like to see the potential hazards!
And we got a dusting again last night.  :(
The middle looked a little dicey - either wet cracks or open water.  Couldn’t tell from the shore.
See photo below:

Looking forward to better ice…
