Hi Joerg and others,

I think it is good to tell the success stories as well and not only the questions and problems. Joerg made a few very useful tools like the KM11, Uniprobe and Unibone. And I'm frequently making use of it now. In the beginning the Unibone was all al bit new and it took some time to get used to it.

Now a Unibone is standard in my small and fully loaded 11/10 together with two KM11.

Another Unibone is in a DD11CK backplane together with a serial card and a Uniprobe. I can use it as an emulated stand alone machine, but I use it also for debugging an 11/20. The 11/20 is the cpu only without memory. That complete story is on the vfded forum.

So many thanks to Joerg and all software engineers to make real Unibus device emulation possible. I truly hope something like the DEUNA network interface will be able in the future as well... But I really think it is a great tool and a -must have- for all PDP11 fanatics.

Regards, Roland

I'll second your points! I'm new to the PDP-11 world, but coming up to
speed at a good clip. There's little chance I would have made it as far
as I have without the ability to emulate common modules with QBone.

The only obstacle at this point is lack of CPU emulation in QBone, but I'm
sure that will come along when Joerg catches his breath :-).

Roland,
Thank you for your email to the list. I also want to share my success story with the
UniBone and Qbone systems that Joerg has created.

I currently have a UniBone and UniProbe in a PDP-11/84 system that otherwise would have
no disk drives and no way to run a decent operating system. With the UniBone it has large
(gigabyte) disks, as well as RL02s (and the RL02 emulator panel) which is convenient for
moving files between the internet and RSX11M+ which is what it runs now.

I also must say a word of thanks to Josh Dersch who perfected the MSCP driver for UniBone
and Qbone as well a Johnny Billquist who continues to add great things to RSX.

I also have a PDP-11/05 which I hope to bring alive some day with another UniBone like
you did Roland. I also agree that a DEUNA emulation would be wonderful.

On the Qbone side of things my PDP-11/83 runs disk I/O substantially faster with the QBone
than it did with a UC07 and SCSI2SD combination. I also have a MINC-23 that with FTP
directly to the BeagleBone now is so much easier to use when moving RT-11 software to it.

Joerg,
Thanks for all the great work!!!
Best,
Mark

With the unibone and uniprobe I have got working my unibus systems a 11/70, a 11/34, a 2nd 11/34 and the 11/84.  My 11/10 does not work yet because of power supply and core memory problems.

I've got QProbe and QBone now and there are waiting a 11/93, a LSI PDP11/23+, a 2nd 11/23, a MINC System with 11/23 and at the end a mentec m100.

Thank's to joerg for making this possible!
