Why does the announcer say "Live on tape" every night when the show is (clumsily, obviously) edited?

They added vocals to the first part of the theme, but I can't tell who sings them, since it ends before the camera goes live in the Ed. I'm assuming it's the ladies in the band, but would love to know.

The tone suggests female voices, but like I said, that part stops before the show gets into the theater.
