I'm pleasantly surprised it's not another stop on Howard Stern's book tour.  Though that might be coming soon.

It has been years since I’d even seen Stern, so flood of the warm reception he’s been getting have amused and annoyed me. So much of the drummed up controversy in media is fake outrage. His book tour is proof.

Maron has said on the podcast that he now uses a booking agency so he is getting more guests with something to promote. With an hour to do the interview the promotional part is usually the last ten minutes or so. Those of us who follow Letterman know that the next season of his Netflix show is coming out on May 31 with all of the episodes coming out at once, unlike last year when they came out once a month.

Stern crapped all over podcasts. This was when he had problems negotiating with Sirius. He especially mocked Carolla's podcast. It would be interesting to see what he says if he gos on WTF.

He was on Conan O'Brien's podcast this week. I don't remember him saying anything particularly anti-podcast.

I listened to the WTF Letterman episode. It wasn’t bad, but at times it felt very... what’s the right word... not scripted, not rehearsed, but maybe planned? Orchestrated? It didn’t feel as conversational as other Maron interviews. I got the sense there were prearranged topics, like a typical talk show pre-interview had taken place, with Maron given questions to ask or topics to raise where Dave had a prepared story or response. Maybe I’m wrong; I have no way to prove my theory. It just didn’t feel like the free-flowing style of most WTF interviews.

Maron prides himself in not doing much preparation for interviews, a la Larry King. The idea is that the listener learns about a topic as Maron does. Sometimes that's frustrating as Maron misses obvious topics or obvious follow up questions for answers. With Letterman, Maron already knew a lot about him and The Comedy Store. So what you got was an interview where Maron was prepared.
