Hello,

I'm trying the, perhaps esoteric, window manager "sway". It's a tiling
window manager like i3, but with wayland support.

The turbovnc client opens upp a big empty grey box on this
configuration, which is odd.

I can switch between several wm:s on this machine, and turbovnc client
works well in them: gnome 4.0, and i3.

Usually I connect like this:
/opt/TurboVNC/bin/vncviewer -ExtSSH=1 -Tunnel=1 tanaka:1

but it doesnt matter if i change the paramterers, I just get the big
grey box all the time.

Some versions:
turbovnc-2.2.80-20210923.x86_64
Fedora release 34 (Thirty Four)

Does it require Wayland? If it doesn’t have an X11 backward compatibility mode, then it won’t work with TurboVNC.

It does have the xwayland compat layer.

Other x apps work under Sway with this compat layer, such as firefox.

For the moment I'm switching back to Gnome, which works, but isn't as
convenient as i3/sway, when they work. The problem with i3 on this
machine is that it doesnt handle hidpi very well, sway does handle hidpi
but not turbovnc. Ah well...

I looked it up. Sway is Wayland-only. I would like to eventually support Wayland applications in TurboVNC, but that is a large undertaking that would require a lot of funding.
