When I use the mouse to resize panes it is extremely slow for some panes. The time from I grab a pane border with the mouse till I can see the new pane size can be 30s. This affects many panes but not all. There are panes in the same session that have very fast response time. It is however deterministic, i.e. it is not load related.  I think it only affects vertical split panes. Resize panes through keyboard shortcuts is fast.

Not sure what is relevant information. Tmux client is 3.1, server is older, perhaps  2.9. I have  compiled them myself. OS is Redhat RHEL7.2. Terminal is xterm. X protocol is tunneled through ssh.

Restarting the tmux server is not an option right now.

Any ideas what might cause this or how to debug it?

Do you have a huge history-limit? Try running clear-history in the problem panes.

Yes, indeed. I use history-limit 100000. When I cleared history in all the adjacent panes the resize becomes fast.

  Thanks,
