hi

For some reason my tiddlywikis wont save. They worked a few months ago but now if I create a new entry the save button stays red, if I press it, it wants to save the wiki into a new file. I cancel and next time I reload there are no changes in the wiki.

I am on Firefox 53.0 64 bits under latest Ubuntu. I have tried to create a new Firefox profile and also to uninstall and reinstall the firefox extension for tiddlywiki.

any ideas?

thanks

sorry I forgot to say that this happens using the latest tiddlywiki version but also the previous one too.

Hi Enrike

Just asking this to clarify your post (for everyone):

So, are you saying that you're using a local TW and you want to save it, again to local.
When you click the red save-wiki button a browser download window opens that asks you to save it with another file name... but you click cancel to this.

To me it doesn't sound surprising that it is not saved, since you really cancel the saving.

But if I understand you right, you mean that previously there was no such download window and the file just saved by overwriting the previous copy of it. And you're using the TiddlyFox FF addon, right?

I have no great answer to your question but I hear browser safety restrictions are tightening and this might be a reason. Again, assuming I understand your question right.

Hi Enrike,

I am on Firefox 53.0 32 bits on Linux Mint 17.3 with the latest tiddlyfox. Tiddlywiki saves. Do you see the cat icon and have you enabled it for your wiki?

Sorry, if I wasnt that clear. Yes I have three local TW and I am using
them on Firefox 53 under Ubuntu 16.04 with Tiddyfox addon installed (I
have reinstalled it to see if that solves my problem. it didnt).

Before I had them setup with autosave option so I never had to press the
save button. That button didnt even go red because the wiki would save
itself. Yeseterday I realised that this does not happen any longer. I am
not sure when did happened because I dont enter data very often. The
latest saved tiddy dates from the 3rd of april 2017.

Now when I create a new entry, after clicking the "confirm changes"
button, the save button on the right stays red, unlike before. If I
press it, I get the save file dialogue. If I press save, the red button
goes back to normal and I get no errors, but when I press reload in the
browser the entry hasnt been saved.

I tried to create a new clean profile in Firefox but I get the same in
that profile. File permissions seem to be fine. I downloaded the very
latest version and imported the data from the old wiki into the new one
but same happens. No data is saved.

where should I find that icon? I have never seen it. I remember that in
the past I got a popup window asking me to provide permissions to edit
and save the wiki. This happened every time I upgraded TW if I remember
well. I dont get that now.

thanks

ok, now I see something interesting. I just realised that when I create
a new profile in Firefox I MUST reinstall again the Tiddyfox extension
and very cleverly, I hadnt done it... So I installed it for the new
Firefox profile and first time ever now I get to see the cat icon next
to other icons. I open a clean wiki give permissions to save, create a
new entry and it autosaves perfectly!

So my guess is that there is something in the old profile that is
messing with Tiddyfox extension not allowing it to save the wikis. Maybe
another extension or something in the configuration, I will check and if
I dont see anything I will stick to the new profile

thanks

ok, I found the reason. I always keep the Firefox configuration, under
privacy section, not to remember the browse history. I noticed that in a
new clean profile as soon as I disable the history, then tiddlyfox
disappears from the icon bar and tiddlywiki cannot be saved.

thats the reason then
