Does anyone have experience hosting a Tiddlywiki on Dreamhost? I want need to take my tiddlywikiness to the next level, but can't seem to get this work on my Dreamhost account. Instructions here: https://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20on%20a%20PHP%20Server make it seem simple, but the instructions aren't always clear. I don't know if I'm missing something or if it's a Dreamhost problem. Would love to know if anyone else has had success, or knows what my issue might be. Many thanks if you can help. MR

Are you getting any error messages?

Note that at the very bottom of the instructions there's a note about changes that are needed for the PHP code. Those changes are probably mandatory now anywhere that a modern PHP system is deployed.

Good luck!

I have wikis hosted on dreamhost without any trouble. I just followed the instructions you linked to and it worked for me. The biggest problem i ran into was I kept putting the wrong path to the store.php file in the wiki itself.

Tiddlywikiness or... Tiddlywikedness?
I think that's a term worth coining. :)

Recently there was a link to a revised store.php with https ... I'm not sure if there was any testing or feedback on it ... https://groups.google.com/d/msg/tiddlywiki/tNhGchMqV_M/8_L8yX_kCAAJ

No error messages, but I will take your comment about the note at the bottom under advisement. I think this is going to have to wait until the weekend now (since my nights got busy; unless I can squeeze in some time), but yours and some of the other responses have given me some good leads. Will report. Thank you.

As long as you credit me elsewhere once (for the inspiration of course; "Tiddlywikedness" is totally yours), I can die a happy man.

Great! This could be part of the problem; though, I did try simply http at for a while at one point. Still I mostly have been struggling under https. I didn't realize that could be an issue. I'll start with that first, and then see if I can get it to work with the https update. Thank you!

Yay! Your response has given me the most hope. Not to diminish the other responses, it's just that someone has achieved this on my host!

One of the things that I've been flipping back and forth on this particular issue: when they say "path to the store.php file," does that include the file? (A simple example in those instructions would have helped, and I might offer a rewrite of those instructions if I ever get this to work!)

Can you clarify? Is it:

or simply

I have tried both, but if you can clarify for me, that's one parameter I can quit messing with.

Thanks again for..., you know..., hope.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I ended up using the enhanced store.php suggested by @tiddlytweeter and was able to get it to work. Am very excited to be able to use this from anywhere. Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks, Jed. I see what you mean about the path. I've put a couple different wikis in different places and you really have to pay attention to that path. It's easy to overlook.

Is it your experience that saving seems to take a long time on Dreamhost? If that's normal, I can learn to live with it, I just want to be sure I'm not still doing something wrong.

Thanks,

The amount of time it takes to save seems inconsistent to me. Sometimes it can take a minute to save and sometimes it seems to happen almost immediately. I haven't figured out why. I also have a very poor sense of time so I generally don't trust my own impressions of things like this.

Yes, it seems to vary. I don't know that I've experienced a minute wait, though sometimes it does seem to take an awfully long time. I've turned off the autosave, which helps cut down on the waiting between saves. I make all my changes and then hit save. Thanks again for your feedback.

The slow saving on dreamhost (and to a lesser extent on tiddlyspot) is one of the reasons I started the multiuser plugin I have, it saves individual tiddlers when they change instead of the full wiki so it is much much faster. It isn't really ready for use on publicly accessible servers yet but I am working on authentication for other projects that should be compatible with it so that may come soon.

Ah, well, I look forward to your plugin making prime time! Having to wait is a bit of an annoyance, but only because I'm used to working with it directly on my machine. Waiting a few more seconds is still worth having it always accessible. Thanks so much for your help.
