I returned last week from hosting a group of anglers to fish in Mongolia. I am still grasping for words to describe the trip. Even after a week of processing the experience of floating a river through the Mongolian Steppe I feel I am no closer to being able to put into words how amazing it was.

We fished with Mongolian River Outfitters in the eastern part of the country. The guides were knowledgeable, the people were friendly, the food was delicious, the beer, wine, and vodka were all plentiful, the camps were well attended, the fish were eager, and the landscape was awe inspiring.

If you like adventure or travel, or if you just like really big trout with bad attitudes, then I highly recommend putting Mongolia on your list of places to fish. It is special place.
And in keeping with local social norms...yes...that is me engaged in Mongolian Wrestling. I am sad to report our group went 0-6 against the Mongolians.
Hope you enjoy the pictures, but know, they do no justice to this place.

So what's up with the teeth marks on the fish?

I hate you.

Not.

I am wildly jealous however.

0-6???

I think we need to expand the scope of our Sunday morning sessions beyond casting.

Oh, and amazing photos, by the way.

Carl,

Taimen have a nasty set of teeth and are also cannibals. We found fish up to 23-24" that had fresh teeth marks, which would prompt us to row back upstream to see if we hook the offending cannibal. Crazy stuff.

Scott I believe the Mongols lower blood alcohol content certainly helped.
