Jake the Snake, 2-prong weed guard

Hey - do you guys tie weed guards a certain way and want to share?  I can't seem to get the weed guard to work as well as the guy in the youtube video.  Mine end up wonked-out to one side or the other.  

BTW - We've been seeing a lot of large bass lately.  Went out today on a certain well-known potomac trib and got into a few medium ones, but not the lunkers we saw.  I found the water surprisingly clear today based upon how things were yesterday!  The high wind blowing into us today required long lob cast and dumping the backcast, then turning around to fish ;).  Works great, but feels weird. 8 weight was good, but I kept thinking I wanted a spey rod instead ;).

I use craft wire. I tie a strand above the hook point as a long tail and bend it around in a loop toward and tie off at the eye. Seems to work. However spatter dock always eats my flies.

I think the weed guards pictured are intended to rest on the hook point like this:
