I'm must be particularly thick-skulled today, but my question is: the cost for a non-resident fishing license Freshwater fish statewide AND Fish in designated stocked trout waters (This license required in addition to other nonresident licenses if fishing in these waters) comes to $94?

Thanks!

I believe that is correct. From the DGIF page:

$47 for the Freshwater fish statewide
plus
$47 for the Fish in designated stocked trout waters (This license required in addition to other nonresident licenses if fishing in these waters)

Love me some VA trout water, but it's pretty absurd that you have to basically pay $100 to legally have the right to fish for trout in the commonwealth....I honestly wish there was more reciprocation as far as licenses go between the DC, MD, VA area....especially on the Potomac.

if you are not fishing stocked waters then you don't need the trout stamp.  That saves some money.

Yea, a traveling man will pay a pretty penny to fish this great nation.  Wish there was some combined national license you could buy, even if it was a few hundred bucks it would be worth it.  In the past two years I've bought licenses for DC, MD, VA, NY, PA, ME, and NM.

I concur.  I would pay three times the license fee for the right to fish in all, or even just 5 or 6 states of my choosing. Even a license that allowed for a specific number of days (30 out of state days of fishing for example) would be nice.  Drivers licenses are reciprocal.  I wince at my annual license costs…and it’s not just me fishing, but one or both of my sons who must also have them.

Thank you, gents! Despite working in county gov't, I'm still stumped on occasion by bureaucratese.

In MD, DNR's site says, "Nonresident non-tidal license fees are equal to a $30.50 minimum or reciprocal for state of residence, whichever is greater."  So if you want a MD license and live in DC, that'll be $30.50 please. VA anglers, please pay 47 bucks. Etc. A couple of years ago a friend from San Diego was living here for a year on a project assignment and to go fishing in MD he's have been socked for $124.77, the amount CA charges non-residents for sport fishing. I say amen to some sort of national licensing scheme.

I have always thought the Virginia out of state fees for license were punitive .
Attached is a neat Christmas present I got from my daughter. It doesn't include the national Forest stamp but would cover most close in trout fishing. At age 63 it cost about $100 for resident.

Nice. Very Thoughtful of her, Bruce. I still have 2-3 years till I hit that marker. Gonna stash that idea away just the same - I have two daughters, so perhaps I could get an MD lifetime and a non-resident lifetime in state of my choice...hmmmm.  ;-)

Mark,
You can get them at any age - its just a little cheaper if you are an old fart.

Prices are punitive if you are out of state.

Now I need to try it out.  Solunar chart says Wed 1/15 is one of the best days this month around noon.  I am going to try to slip over to 4MR around 11AM and fish the falling water.

Excellent birthday present idea, Brian. I will definitely keep this in mind should my recently married daughter and son-in-law (near Lake Barcroft) produce a grandson.
