I realize this is a fishing board.  But I know a lot of people on here frequent Gravely Point and are in general nature lovers.  This year there has been an "Eruption" of Snowy Owls coming further south than their typical range.  I guess it  happens every so often. You may have seen news stories about it.

There has been one hanging out at National Airport the last week or so and being spotted from Gravely point.  Could be a rare chance to see one of these awesome birds. Bring a pair of binoculars and look for the huge white bird.  That or there should be a lot of birders down there that I am sure would be happy to let you look through their spotting scopes. Just look for the group of people with tripods and binoculars.

I have already seen one this year but am going to try to get out there this weekend to see this one too.

It's gonna eat Peanut The Cat. I'll be there sunrise Sunday and will keep my eyes open.

A few coworkers went to GP yesterday at lunch to look, but didn't see one.  I saw the email in our office from one of the local birder people.  Maybe that was you?

DC area was host to snowy owl spottings around the time of the first Obama inauguration in 2009.
