Does anyone have any experience with fly fishing in Bosnia?  I'll soon be moving to Banja Luka and I'd like some tips about trout fishing in that area.  Thanks.

Hey Bob,

While I appreciate the humor in your tongue in cheek response, I actually suggested to Julie that she post this question to the group since I know with the size of our membership there is likely someone on board who can provide some helpful info.  Keep up the search Julie, and I hope to see you at BEER TIE!

I don't know about BiH but Slovenia is a former Yugoslav republic and has awesome rivers and marble trout.

Dan, I didn't suggest a google search until after I did one because Google ain't always your friend (often about some really mundane things) but this time it really is. It came up with a slew of great websites with contact info from guides, shops, Youtubes and forums. I was quite frankly surprised at the amount of info available.

So Julie, in case no one responds with any first hand information, you will find lots of help online.
Bosnians (SP?) seems really proud of the quality of their fly fishing. And the place looks beautiful.

Have fun!

I always bring my fly rod when I travel overseas. I have travelled extensively throughout the region and can attest to the beautiful water and potential for fun fishing. One of the things to keep in mind is that it will be very hard to find basic materials over there. A typical fishing shop in the Balkans will have one tray of overpriced flies and sparse fly gear. My recommendation would be to bring a few dozen of the most popular basic flies. Things like elk hair caddis, gold ribbed hares ear, wolly bugger, etc. bring a couple seasons worth of leaders, and maybe some extra floatant.

Here is a site that offers guide service. http://www.flyfishing-bosnia.com

Finally, the signs warning about mine fields should be taken seriously.

Let's hope there are some rivers left after last week.  As has been mentioned, there is some great, destination worthy fishing over in Slovenia but in Serbia as well.  I am guessing there is decent fishing somewhere in Bosnia.
I have been warned that travel in this region takes a lot longer than we would expect in the states or in western Europe, so something that might seem close for us might take a lot longer to get to over there.
