Disclaimer No animals were harmed in the making of this thread.

My cats white whiskers make awesome antennae on my shrimp flies.

No pets, but hit a rabbit with my car on a fishing trip a few weeks ago and definitely looped back around to see if it was salvageable.  Little guy made it into the woods somehow, so no go...

So maybe some animals were harmed in this thread...

Much like Matt.  I've kept the tails off a few hit deer for streamers.

Thanks,

My animal might be saved by this thread...........

I need to trim the toe hair of my Husky (she slides on the hardwood floors) and I always thought it would be good for a   "Usual" .  I don't know if it's hollow and floats but it doesn't come in wet from the snow.  My fly tying area is totally out of commission at the moment so I might have to bag it and tie later.  It's a renewable resource.

I've been tying with my dog's fur for a few years now.  The flies catch fish.  Caught my 23'' Rainbow last year on a streamer - the "rubber-legged bitch hair streamer".   Here's a blog post I did on tying from dog hair:

in fact I tied one at last night's Beer-Tie, tied partially from dubbed dog hair, rabbit, rubber legs.

That's the thing about fly tying: you'll never look at your pets or road kill the same way ever again. ;-)  I may still have some soft underfur from our dearly departed cocker spaniel - that went into a few bead head nymphs that worked well on panfish on vacation in Ontario - I should try to find it in the clutter of the man cave. I also have some fur from daughter's corgi that's of guard hair consistency - I've been thinking it might be good blended with some sparkly stuff for some Aggravator Nymphs.

The Tang-Tummy nymph is a perfect rendition of the Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear, and uses the black spots and tan fur in between from--you guessed it!--Tang Cat's belly fur. He's so docile we can easily clip what's needed, and since it's on his tummy, the baldish spots don't show. I'll try to demonstrate at the next Beer Tie. No, I can't offer you your own supply of bi-colored fur...

Time to get the shears out. My long-haired cat would appreciate being shorn during the hot summer days, right?
