I am all set for a 3 day tieathon. Final prep for the storm is to fill up a few growlers on the way home tonight.  Anyone with same thoughts, lets post some flies on this thread over the weekend.  Enjoy

I'll definitely be in that mode. I have to tie up a mess of SW flies for a trip to Cuba. I have another order of materials that's supposed to get here tomorrow, hoping that makes it before the snow hurts mail delivery.

I'm going to be at the vise a lot. Just picked up a bag of 6mm pearl beads at craft store for some articulation nation. Also prepping materials for Somerset next weekend. Y'all be safe and don't punish your livers too much.

Yep --- Beth is sick, but I'm sure we'll do some tying this weekend for sure.  Note our dual tying station.  Picture it with a couple of glasses of Johnny Walker Black and stuff scattered around and you'll get the idea.

Soft hackles mostly.  A few others.

There are very, very few times when I am not fishing on a day off, but a potential 18" of snow is one of them.

Vise is all set up over here!

No, but at one of the hatcheries in MO way out in the country I probably cleaned up 2-3 actual, abandoned meth labs discarded on the property ;).

If the fly pattern doesn't contain batteries and various pieces of glassware, I'd say it is poorly named.

A few more -- lots of flies, a few soft hackles with CDC behind the partridge, a bucktail, etc.

The stupid looking streamer with bead chain and 2 tones of marabou is probably the best warm water fly I've ever used.  I've never tried to use it for trout, but it's caught about every species off the Potomac that I wanted to catch.   Of course, my priority this season is going to be larger soft hackles instead ;).

It's probably clear, but tying is a "supportive" activity and not a "primary" one to me ;).

Terry - don't you tie those beautiful salmon flies?  I know a few folks in the club do -- put some up!  Come on -- I can barely use a cell phone, have no bookface account, don't blog, don't know how to twit or instagram, don't use that stupid linkedin, and basically only communicate with people other than Beth on this forum.  If I can figure it out, ANYONE can.

This is basically how I tie it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Luc5PpTj5Tw
I usually stick to one color. I always use red thread. I pack the segments in a little tighter than it looks like they do on the video. Also, use the same general technique with a single strand of egg yarn (sometimes split in half) to tie a sucker spawn.

Tie a few, and you'll figure it out and get a feel for how you like to tie them.

That is an awesome set up Gene! I'll be tying up some shad puffs and stimulators so I will be all ready for the spring season. Went and got my whiskey already so I am all set (priorities right?). Trying out a new stand up tying area this weekend..

That standing tying desk is quite progressive.  I have a standing desk in my cubicle at work -- but I'm way too lazy to tie standing.  Throw whiskey (or whisky in my case) into the mix, and things could get interesting ;).

Ahh auto correct gets me every time, even when it isn't the correct spelling. I tried out the standing option a little bit last night and I liked it for the most part. I can't tie for very long sitting down before my back starts killing me from being hunched over the vise. I'll see how it goes this weekend over a sustained time.

My preference for crystal meth Is hot orange or yellow.
