I have a 30 frame long Lang. I made a 10 frame walk-away split and the queen is in the original hive. Even after removing 10 frames for the split and putting new empty ones into the long box it looks very congested in there. I did not see any swarm cells.

I would split it again except that the original colony is a little spicy and I am planning to requeen it and the split. So I don’t want to create more colonies.

Any suggestions on how to slow them down? There is a lot of uncapped nectar but nothing that could be harvested yet.

If it helps i have over 10 queens in the process of emerging for my project. I would say some time this week. I am willing to give up 2 virgin queens.
Let me know

Sung

Queen isolation frame cage? (If you are using super or deep frames typical of langstroth). They sell them at dadant and Mann. Put the frame w the queen on it in the cage (covered w queen excluder type bars so she can’t get out but the worker bees can come in and out). It’ll limit her to that one frame.

I sometimes use ProFormic strips at full strength (normally I do half) which kills off some brood and may even kill the Queen (not an issue if you are planning to reQueen). It will also slow down your reQueening process (I go into hive to pinch about 4-7 days after applying treatment.) Spicy hives may become extra spicy during treatment. It also has added benefit of starting out your newly reQueened hive with low mite counts.

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions. I am in touch with some of you off the list.
