Hi all

Does anyone have a phone number for HP support that actually has a human on the end. Their Robot is useless

We have a major problem with the M1 /Big Sur Macs with printing to our old yet reliable HP 4200 HP4250 and HP 2100 and HP2200 printers

We cannot install HP drivers on an M1 computer- the installer won't run.

Any ideas in what to do or any help with a contact would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Will it accept postscript?  Just set up the printer with another HP postscript driver.

Try again:
I've recently changed to the new M1 chip MacBook Pro. My previous device was running the same OS namely Big Sur (11.0.1) and printer worked fine. However, on the new M1 chip MacBook Pro the HP LaserJet P1102 drivers won't work. Steps I've taken: 1. Launched HP Easy Start from this page: https://...

this is the actual software

I don't have an M1 mac to try it on to confirm.

We have been having all sorts of fun with Big Sur and both Intel and M1 chips.

Issues ranging from not printing, to not printing certain fonts (e.g. "Quicksand").

Some of my team have been having some success with using a generic PS driver (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/index.php) to get staff going again.
The other option we have found to work is to utilize the PaperCut Mobility print setup
Both options loose some of the advanced print functionality (stapling, folding, etc), but basic printing is better than nothing for most staff.

It seems that Apple is really pushing ahead with the plan to move to AirPrint only in future, and this might be the first step in that process.

I used the following installers from HP last time, however i am not sure if it was a M1 chip, but it was Big Sur:

thanks

Hi all

One of the issues is the installer won’t run on an M1 but I think the printer info will run so what I want to explore is being able to get the HP4200 and 4300 and 2200 “driver” and manually install them in the right place as I can print fine on my Big Sur which has been upgraded from previous version.

All we need is HP to develop an installer that runs on M1s :-)

On that teachers are having major issues printing from Chrome to our Fuji Xerox - Comes up with a font error, But I have never noticed it as I print from Safari

Has anyone found a solution to that issue as many sort want to copy the chrome link to safari to print it

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate having a sounding board in this time of change.

Cheers

Vern

Yes we have seen similar issues with our Ricoh printers and new installs of Big Sur.  Upgraded OS's are OK

PS errors, sometimes superimposed on print jobs.

HI Vern, I had a font error at a school site recently, it was one particular font that the teacher was using. changed to a "normal" one and no error.  Did not get to diagnose the root cause (time is money when dealing with an external resource like myself :) )

Hey Vern - possibly wont help, but worth a try on the printing in Chrome on macOS front... Try clicking the 'Print using system dialog' option and printing via the macOS print framework instead of the Chrome print window. I've had many occurrences where that has helped - eg in situations where copiers drop print jobs that don't have an embedded authentication PIN.

If it does help then you can change the setting permanently for the user by issuing this command from their Terminal app then quitting and re-launching Chrome:

defaults write com.google.Chrome DisablePrintPreview -bool true

I had a problem just yesterday with an upgraded M1 Big Sur mac and a couple of specific PDF documents that would fail part way through with a postscript error generated at the copier (but print fine on other macs). Installing latest Big Sur drivers made things worse - changing the situation to simply a print queue that pauses whenever it receives a job and no printing at all! Doh.

I ended up working around that one by printing to the bonjour-discovered Airprint queue advertised from the PaperCut print server - so kinda sidestepped the problem rather than fixing it. So doesn't help you much :(

Hi Pete

re print using system dialog from chrome is  the only option we support - still doesn’t work. there is a font error which is not there when printing from safari

yes there is meant to be a new installer for fuji xerox coming out, but with reports no time to explore :-)

I have seen the print queue pausing issue on occasions Once again not sure what solution I found there

Printers- who needs them - thank goodness for emailed reports :-)

Cheers

Given the 2100 came out almost 20 years ago I would be very surprised if you get this working with Big Sur, I know thats not really helpful but it might be time to move on and obtain new printer, Kyocera make very reasonably priced laser printers.

I wouldn't! It was more than 20 years ago in fact (1999), but the 2100 still works with the generic postscript printer driver.

It's the same print protocol underneath as even the very newest PS printers - just without all the extra bell & whistle additions :)
