Is anyone using these successfully? Depending on the settings I either get constant false positives or have to try the action ten times to get it to trigger - sometimes both.

Sometimes it seems like the actions are recognized but there's a delay of many seconds in acting on them, so I'll shake my phone repeatedly with no effect, then 5 seconds later it toggles the torch on and off a bunch of times.

There also seems to be a bug where the shake action triggers when I pick up the phone (without shaking it) after leaving it on my desk for a long time.

The problem is not the sensors on the phone, as I can see using a sensors app that the data is good.

Is there any more detailed documentation for how to debug this?

have you calibrated the sensors perhaps or changed the sensitivity of them in the tasker menu?  I think I have had to do this for my orientation sensor.  MIght want to look there.

I just tried resetting all Tasker preferences to the defaults then calibrating the sensors.

I recorded a gesture consisting of 5 points - phone upright, phone rotated forward 90 degrees, phone upright, forward 90 degrees, phone upright.

It worked fine a couple of times, then started triggering when I only rotated the phone forward and back one time, then started triggering constantly (like as in an infinite loop, with no delay between the profile triggering). This is pretty typical of my experience with gestures in Tasker.

I've had the same issues on multiple devices.

I have used a simple shake trigger that worked fine. i don't need it any more.

did you read this?

I guess it comes down to the phone, if it's sensors sux, so will your gesture projects. on my note phone(s) they work quite well. Samsung seems to have good sensors.

Yes, I read that. The sensors on this phone are good; I can see the data in real time with Sensors Multitool and the accelerometer responds exactly as one would expect. I actually used it to diagnose a motor mount issue in my car by measuring the vibration with and without the engine supported by a jack.

I'm certain this is a Tasker bug.

I attached a runlog excerpt showing one of the problematic behaviors, where it seemingly goes into an infinite loop triggering the gesture over and over while the phone is stationary. It fires 1-2 times per second, which is much faster than I could physically do the gesture.

The left side of this graph is what the sensor output looks like while Tasker's gesture detection is going haywire. The part where the lines move is me doing the gesture. The vibration after doing the gesture is me using the volume+power keys to take the screenshot:
