What I think is the standard format for Source Type footnote formats that includes URLs (at least for Electronic Web Site) surrounds it with angle brackets, e.g.
[TITLE], online \<[URL]\><, [CD]><. Hereinafter cited as [SHORT TITLE]>.

I really don't think I've ever changed this, but I don't actually know how to confirm that. It just isn't an area of TMG that I've ever messed about with.

In a TMG report, I see the URL within angle brackets, but after I run T2G and bring it to ancestry, the whole string within the brackets is just a single blank.

I have removed the escaped angle brackets from the format on the TMG source, so it is now
[TITLE], online [URL] <, [CD]><. Hereinafter cited as [SHORT TITLE]>.
and the URLs all show up on ancestry.

thanks,

Lynn

Lynn,

The convention of using "<" and ">" to delimit URLs was an ill-advised choice given "<" and ">" are special in an HTML context. I recommend not using any delimiter as URLs are instantly recognizable and don't need a visual signal to alert a reader to their presence.

Do you know a way to get a Source Types report from TMG so I can quickly see which ones use angle brackets? I don't see one, and the export doesn't results in an human-readable file.

thanks, Lynn

Lynn,

The Export Data feature in TMG Utility is your best bet. It will export a very complete picture of the master source records. You can make a web page, then search the text of the page (when in a browser) for "<" characters.

If here is a chance that you used < and > in citations, you can use the Change Citation Parts feature in TMGU to change those.

Lynn,

If you are trying to make a point, I am not understanding it. Perhaps you should review this:

It gives me number, abbreviation and title, but not the footnote format.

And exporting sources from TMG does produces a binary file that is of no help.
