Sadly, my arthritis has gotten to the point where I don't feel
comfortable sailing Fugu any longer. Since I'm dropping things and I
don't know if I could hang on to recover from a capsize. I'd like to
sell Fugu with the box trailer. The trailer is set up with a hoist so
the trailer can carry two boats. I'm not sure that Fugu would be as
competitive as she once was but she would be a good starter boat for
someone wanting to learn and have a few swimming lessons. If anyone
knows of someone who might be interested, let me know.

Robert, thanks to the group message. I have discussed the difficulty capsizing with advancing years with Mike Jocelyn. Mike came up with an interesting idea; putting a handle on the hull under the gunwale. I think it’s a great idea.

This would make righting the boat easier. We reach up to lift ourselves enough to get a knee on the centreboard.

Once I repair my 3D printer I plan to CAD the “Jocelyn handle/step”. I want a streamline design that acts somewhat like a fin if dragged through water.

Standby…..

Robert,
Best wishes to you finding a new captain for Fugu. I recall seeing your pictures of her maiden voyage on the Great Salt Lake in the dead of winter with snow on the mountains. Hopefully, your hand issues will not prevent you from continuing the beautiful wood turnings that are works of art.

Regards,

Robert,
Thank you for so many fun and competitive days out on the water. Your absence will be noticed. Best of luck finding a good home for Fugu, and I hope you find fulfillment in many other things beyond skiff sailing.
Stay in touch,
Philip
