Hi, Transportation Action Team,

I wanted to make sure you’ve all heard about a new pilot program called 99 Vine | Pacific Crest Bus Lines. There was an article in the GT today that provides an overview:

“A new bus line that will ferry passengers to and from Eugene Airport and as far north as McMinnville, started Monday, Nov. 24. Did we tell you it's free?

“A flier touts the ‘flyer’ between McMinnville and Eugene, with four stops in Benton County. The pilot project, dubbed 99 Vine, is a partnership between Benton and Yamhill counties and aims to provide bus service to eight communities along the 99W corridor, Monday through Friday. This new service will connect McMinnville to Eugene with stops in Rickreall, Amity, Monmouth, Corvallis (OSU and downtown), Monroe, Junction City and Eugene.”

Apparently, the buses have been running mostly empty. We need to change that!

Anyone up for a Trip-by-Transit?

Annette

I live within the traditional homeland of the Ampinefu Band of Kalapuya.  Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya …Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations at either Grand Ronde or Siletz. Today, the Kalapuya live on tribal lands or tribal-ceded lands throughout the region. Many Kalapuya are active members of the sovereign nations of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde or the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Kalapuya culture is alive. To learn more, please check out the online Champinefu Webinar Series, plan a trip to the Chachalu Museum and Cultural Center, and/or make a gift to our Champinefu Fund.

Yes, I'm game. Disappointed though that the 99Vine doesn't go to downtown Eugene. The workaround I think is to get off in Junction City and catch an LTD bus. Still exploring connection times.

It does go to downtown Eugene. Stops include the Eugene airport (where I went), LTD 10th St station, the Amtrak station, and the Jacqua Academic Center (UO).

Please count me in for a FREE 99 Vine sightseeing trip!   For people who do Christmas shopping, Eugene might be a good place to go!  Lots of locally-owned stores fairly centrally located.

I haven't checked the recent Lane Transit District schedules, but at least one of their buses used to be every 10 minutes!  So Eugene is much easier to get around in than some places.

And unlike Corvallis bus station, Eugene's bus station waiting areas have had a huge RAIN ROOF / SUN SHADE for decades!

Annette and Larry,

Yes, the 99 Vine stops in downtown Eugene at the Amtrak station and the LTD bus station (11th and Willamette).
For me, I don’t see any return bus from Eugene after 2:51 pm.

That’s my question. Can I go out to eat in Monroe and get a ride back to Corvallis a couple hours later?

am I missing part of the schedule?

I only see a morning route leaving from Eugene or McMinnville, and no other trips later in the day.

Parts of Northbound and Southbound routes snipped below.  Four runs - four 'Departure Time' columns.  Make sure you know whether you are getting on North or South bound, as both busses are in Corvallis at about the same time.

Thank you. Looking on my phone I can’t see anything more than the first morning run. They need to work on their mobile functionality.

Hey all,
I just got off the phone with Amanda from Pacific Crest Bus Lines. We walked through the mobile webpage together. She is now aware of the problems and they will get to work on them immediately to solve them.

We talked about the delays - she said that tractors and farming equipment using the highway from Rickreall to Monmouth are slowing the buses down unpredictably. They will need a couple of weeks to figure out how to set the schedule to reduce wait times.

As for the Corvallis stops, the OSU stop is the same for north and south bound routes. Amanda thought that the Downtown stop was the same for both routes but was surprised that the southbound drop-off was across the street from the downtown transit center. She's going to get back to me. In the meantime, like Dan said below, confirm with the bus driver as you get on board that you are on the right route. If someone knows that the downtown stop is used for both routes, please let us know.

Cheers, Steve

Looking closer at the photo of the 99 Vine sign at the downtown Corvallis stop, it says North & Southbound routes at this stop. That make me feel more confident, but I'm still going to ask the bus driver.

For this and any other mobile websites that don't appear to work, I suggest always trying to change the orientation - from portrait to landscape, for example. In other words, turn your phone on its side. The full schedule is visible then.

Fyi, 99 Vine has updated their schedule to clean up the Corvallis confusion on stop locations. They are now stopping at the OSU stop *before* the Downtown stop, in BOTH directions. I'm guessing that is largely to ensure they are traveling down Monroe Ave on the correct side of the road (i.e., south, where the bus shelter and station are) for the stop.
