In both screen shots you have the dive computer configuration screen open - you realize that that doesn't support the Shearwater Petrel / Petrel 2 / Perdix, yet.

Can you show the bluetooth device selection screen?

I wonder if it makes any difference if you go there from the download dialog...
So exit Subsurface, go to download (ctrl-D or via the menu), select Bluetooth download mode, select the Petrel and Save, then try the download.

Possibly (even though that shouldn't make a difference), click on the Petrel and select unpair and then pair again in that screen before you save.

The Shearwater Petrel 2 responds on channel 5 and not channel 1. I thought Subsurface was set to switch to channel 5 but from the log it doesn't look like this works.

Let's fall back on the old, non-native communication for a moment...

Can you follow the instructions in the FAQ https://subsurface-divelog.org/faq/
Please look for the question "How do I download dives from my Shearwater Petrel 2 (or other Bluetooth dive computer) on Linux?"
(it seems there's no way to send you a link that goes straight to that question... odd)

This describes the manual way to set up an rfcomm channel for the Shearwater Petrel 2 - you then DON'T select bluetooth in Subsurface but pick the rfcomm serial port as described in the FAQ. My guess is that this will work.

Next we need to figure out why Subsurface 4.5.4 doesn't do the right thing for you...

So we found an issue with the native Bluetooth support in 4.5.4 and 4.5.5.
Could you try the just released 4.5.6 and go back to the native BT support, so not using rfcomm?

OOps - all the builds had failed because of a typo - normally I get email
warnings when the builds fail, this time I didn't get anything and so I
didn't notice.

I restarted the builds and they should be available soon...
