Hi, 

I would like to propose this book as my next project. It is the first novel written in Bengali, and is a satire of Bengali society in the mid-1800s.

I would place this book at advanced difficulty. It has frontmatter, lots
of internal formatting, a good number of endnotes, and also a glossary.
Glossaries require special attention and a lot of work, see

If you think you can handle it, then I start a repo and send a link. But
you could also try your hand at a more moderate difficulty production first.

Hi, is there a list of the spelling modernization changes that are made with Se Modernize Spelling .? There are multiple instances of the word Hookah spelled Hooka, and I need to know whether I should add the Bengali language semantics or not.

The list of words "modernized" can be found in this module, but perhaps better "diagnostics" in this case:

• code-search the corpus: there are no instances of "hooka", in fact, only "hookah";
• and Merriam Webster (the SE dictionary-of-reference) gives "hookah" as English (anglicized).

So in your cases, you would want to change those: `[Editorial] hooka -> hookah` and no italics or semantics are required.

It's looking okay so far. I was initially concerned that your last public commit should have been `[Editorial]`, but it fact it simply follows your scan copy, so all good. :) (I wonder where PG got the italics for direct speech from?)

I won't be *monitoring* your repo, though. If you're uncertain at any step, by far the best thing to do is ask here (with relevant links to scans, of course).

Thanks for this! Please see my last commit - there is drama formatting scattered around in many chapters, so I have formatted it according to Standard Ebooks manual of style for Drama. Please check to see whether I did it correctly, and whether I should have formatted it differently. I *think* that "drama" markup looks okay (I've rarely used it myself), but you still need to add the relevant CSS rules to `local.css`. You'll need to get copy/paste from SEMoS:

When it gets to "lint" stage, any unused rules will be flagged for removal.

While I was at your repo, I took a quick look at the other commits. There's some missing markup from the heading reformat commit. You need to wrap the `<h2... / <p...` lines with `hgroup` - see the second example ("A Fellow Traveller") in SEMoS 6.2.1.6.3. A judicious bit of regex should be able to take care of that fairly swiftly!

I have two major editorial changes I want to make, and I want your feedback first about if I should do it, and when I should do it. 

1. Making the very long quotations in the preface into blockquotes

2. Breaking the long paragraphs in the chapters into smaller paragraphs, mostly based on who is speaking (the paragraphs can have 3+ people speaking in them, which can get confusing for a modern reader). 1. Given how those extracts are signalled, I think it makes sense to break them out into blockquotes (no semantics needed for that). In this case, you should also remove the double quotes, and you will then need to replace the "internal" single quotes with double quotes. This is `[Editorial]`, of course.

2. No, just leave those alone. This was a common enough practice in older works, and not one that we "update" for our editions.

Hi David, 

I had another question about formatting in the endnotes. Several of them are formatted in this way currently, with a quotation from the play Sakuntala. The translator is mentioned after the quotation. I assume the <cite> element should be around the actual work that is cited, but how should I mark up and format the Translator's name?

I think that looks good, Chelsea. Of course you'll be running `se clean` again (perhaps many times, I do!) and it may tweak the layout, but I think your markup looks correct.
