I am being reminded that my annual subscription to Malwarebytes is due for payment. Before I pay it, I would be interested to know what people think of Malwarebytes – positive and negative.

Hi Gillian,

I use the free version, just means you have to run it manually now and again. Can’t remember last time it picked up anything. I guess it depends how clever you are at not clicking on a bad internet link.

I do pay for CleanMyMac which has an option to do the same check, plus lots of other stuff. I like to support this app as it’s made by Ukrainians.

Thank you Paul. Very interesting. I think I will transfer to CleanMyMac and forget about Malwarebytes.

You don’t need to pay for Malware no, it’s fine as a free version with an occasional scan.

CleanMyMac is borderline scamware though, it just replicates macOS’ built-in maintenance scripts and gets rid of “junk files” but even the developers are unable to classify exactly what they mean by that.
