Hi Smuggers, How do I convert a document in Pages to DocX? If I chose the option Word in Export, it converts it to a Word document not DocX. I have found that people using Microsoft are not able to open and read Word documents that are not DocX. Any advice appreciated! Virginia

Hi Virgina

Assuming you're version of macOS and Pages similar to mine, this is what I do.

With file open in Pages
Click 'File' in top left
Hover over 'Export to...'
Click 'Word...'
A window appears.
Ensure 'Word' is clicked in the top row of said window
Click 'Advanced options'
Ensure .docx is selected as Format
Click Next (button in bottom right of window.

I've attached a screenshot of the window you require.

Hope that helps?

Just as an FYI Virginia, Word documents were natively saved as .doc format until 2003. Microsoft changed the default format of a Word document in 2003 to .docx.

So, a 19+ year old version of Word cannot open a .docx Word document but any version of Word from 2003 onwards will open both .doc and .docx.

The same is true of all Office apps - until 2003 the extensions for Word, Excel and PowerPoint were .doc, .xls & .ppt but since 2003 the corresponding extension/format is .docx, .xlsx & .pptx. Consistency, yay!

I hope that helps a bit.
