I have been trying to work out how to stop Siri reading out text messages while I have my AirPods in – without choosing a silent focus mode. Basically I simply want it to never happen but the settings do not seem to permit this. Am I missing something? I listen to a lot of audiobooks or get my phone to read out essays and similar, and I can’t hear what is being said behind the text message read out. It’s really infuriating that there is no off button that I can find (everything seems to have an exception for when you have Bluetooth headphones in). Nor do I want my phone on silent mode permanently!

Thanks,

-Jason

Have you checked in Settings > Siri & Search > Announce Notifications > Messages?

Does Settings > Siri & Search > Notifications > Messages offer any hope? (iOS 16)

ah, ok, thank you both. I had ended up in Siri/Spoken Responses (but now realise they are not the same).

I had this turned off successfully so suspect iOS 16 sneaked it back on (the whole lot are turned off now!)

Cheers,
J
