I want to send my book to a publisher as an attachment to an email. I have compressed it to a zip file but it is still to large to send. Can Smuggers advise me : what is the best way to do this?

You can use something like:

Thanks, Derek. I’ll investigate it. Virginia

The drawback to wetransfer, as far as I can see, is that the file expires after 7 days. Publishers and agents do not work at speed. It might be several weeks before they even get round to looking at my submission. Dropbox, to which I subscribe for a personal account, also has the 7 day expiry unless I upgrade to professional. Should I do this? Or is there another way round it? (Oh for the old days when you posted manuscripts to publishers!)

Most trade publishers don’t accept unsolicited manuscripts – and those publishers who do, such as professional and academic publishers, required just a synopsis, a couple of sample chapters, prospective market etc.

Hi,

https://www.idropnews.com/mail-drop/how-to-apple-mail-drop/32278/

Apple Mail has a mail drop feature that operates for files larger than
20MB up to 5GB in size. However the file is only held for 30 days. I
thought this was active by default but you seem to have seen this. Mail
drop works for both macOS and iOS.

If you have an iCloud account then you can just attach it to your email and it will get uploaded to iCloud and the recipient is sent a download link. Ensure your preferences are set first though.

Dropbox doesn’t expire files after 7 days by default as far as I’m aware. It’s a configurable option but default is for links to not expire.

Looking at the link below, it says attachments sent by iCloud expire after 30 days.

Is that a problem? The recipient just needs to download and save it.

Virginia,

I hadn't seen that you were using a GMail address, so I'm guessing that you can make use of GDrive for which you have 5GB of space? You can share files and this Google Support article tells you how;

https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2494822?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en

You'd have to look up how to use GDrive on a Mac as it is some time since I last used it.

Tony

Good point!  I’m thinking in the wrong paradigm - that the manuscript will disappear into the ether after 7 days.  But as you point out, they probably download it and save it.  Thanks for getting me onto the right track.

Are you sending the MS exclusively to one publisher or to several?

Actually, it is going to an agent.  I used the word publisher to make things clear.  I think I’m nearly there!
