Carl:   Yes, Stan was a good guy.  Has anybody heard from him since he moved to SoCal?

His accident in B'game was so tragic.  First, we lost a good riding friend when he gave up bikes.

Second, he was the manager of the Marriott Riverwalk in San Antonio, a *very* nice facility and a place I stayed several times not knowing him as a rider.  Once we met here at SMBC he promised he could not save me a dime on my next San Antonio visit, but he could sure get me a nicer room.

I never got that chance to let him help me out.

I do hope he is well.

Me too, Bob. Stan reached out to me a few years ago and we had a very pleasant conversation. All was fine on his end and he and Mary(?) were enjoying being grandparents in Southern California.

I tried to open the link, you have to be on an Apple phone. Which "resort" is it?

Now called The Inn at Death Valley, it’s the old Furnace Creek Inn . . . the really nice place just up the hill from the Furnace Creek Ranch (now called The Oasis).

For greater clarity, the place up the hill is called The Inn at Death Valley; down the hill (on the flat) is The Ranch at Death Valley.  Both properties come under the banner of The Oasis and are managed by Xanterra.

Might we look forward to a proposed SMBC Spring Ride to this historic dump,  er... I mean fabulous setting.  LOL.  It would certainly be one for the books, as they say...

I stayed there twice, once on a car trip with my wife and a second time with the SMBC when it was the only place available because I made reservations way too late. Watched a memorable sunset sitting outside the main entrance. Back then it didn’t look anything like the “New First Impression” they advertise today. I liked the version in my memory better.

Grumpy Old Man :)

I don't think us scruffy bikers will be let in. Furnace Creek campground for me!
