Jre problem about opening smart svn in Ubuntu 16.04

I have recently downloaded the latest release of Smartsvn for free.
I have been trying to open it using command prompt but it gives me error.

WARNING: You are using an untested Java version. Use at your own risk!
-Djava.ext.dirs=/root/.smartsvn/9.2/jre-ext/9.0.1 is not supported. Use -classpath instead.
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

By the way I am using recent release of java.

java version "9.0.1"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.1+11)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 9.0.1+11, mixed mode)

If this release won't work, then, which release of java should I download to open Smartsvn?

Hi,

Please install a Java Runtime Environment (1.)8. If necessary use ~/.smartsvn/smartsvn.vmoptions to let SmartSVN know about it as described in readme-linux.txt.

It seems I cannot find the readme file. I searched it in the downloaded tar file but could not find it. Can you please, tell me where can I find readme file.

The readme-linux.txt should be in the root directory of your SmartSVN installation directory structure.

I have the identical problem. I have tried so far with three versions of the JRE, including the latest downloaded from Oracle.com but they all fail.

Can someone from SmartSVN please say WHAT VERSION of Java is needed to execute SmartSVN. It's not clear why this information is not public and prominently displayed on the web site beside the Download button. This would save people a lot of searching and testing.
