Hello colleagues,

I am still working on the index in which the text of the book got added to the main entry column somehow. SKY 7. Different problem today, and I will warn you now that I am a tech idiot.

I had put the index in page order and grouped on some text. When I tried to add one entry, I accidentally put something like "1x" in the locator column. When I tried to overwrite it or delete it, it kept putting in the locator from the entry above. I tried to retrieve the index from backup and to repair. I finally lost the complete index.

I printed out last night's index and started a new index. Now it will not let me enter anything into the locator column. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance,

Create a new index, and merge the old one with it.

Elaborating on Judi's suggestion:
It does sound like your file is corrupt. Per the SKY manual, "Try creating a new empty index with a different name and then use File>File Management>Merge to merge the index entries from the problem index into the new index."

Good luck!

Theresa

Did you also try the following?

1) Index > Resort

and

2) File Management > Repair

If nothing works, make an emergency call to Kamm.

I don't think it's a SKY issue. I can't work with any of my spreadsheets!

Sounds like an issue with Num Lock or Scroll Lock on the keyboard not being on the regular setting that you are used to.

That was it, every one!. Simply Num Lock. Thank you to all of you. I can carry on now without an expensive repair.

C3P9 – C3P10. Sky tells me that the second locator is less than or equal to the first one. It won’t even let me move ahead until I fix this.

I’m going to have a number of these in this index. How do I fix them?

Facts: this is an instance of complex locators. And the 'C3P' can be considered a prefix.
Perhaps most of the rest of the book doesn't need this type of locator, but for the parts that do, you need to set up Volume/Chapters/Sections stuff.
You know where it is: Options>Index>Volume/Chapters/Sections
Make sure it is Enabled (check box at bottom)
Input can include any punctuation you want -- it indicates that whatever precedes the punctuation is the 'volume' part.
Output should be blank -- your locator displays no punctuation
New Volume perhaps doesn't matter
Once you get that set up, click on the Sections tab at the top
Make sure the 'input delimiter' is the same as what you put on the first screen.
Also make sure the data type is Mixed.
And the Enabled box is clicked.
Do your indexing and label those records that need the C39 but don't include the C39 in your locator during this part of the process. When you finish, filter the index so you have those records that need the C39.
Select All, then click on Tools>Add Prefix to Selected Records
It'll ask which field, choose Page
For the Text, type in C39punctuation
by that I mean whatever punctuation you choose in the Volume/Chapters/Sections thing
Click OK and you should be good to go.
So cumbersome! But it works.
