Active cell number from ECLIPSE restart initialization and ACTNUM mismatch

Hi everyone,

I'm very new to MRST and I would like to ask for your recommendation and/or suggestion for this matter.

I'm trying to initialize a black oil reservoir model into MRST using ECLIPSE file.

I found that most of the examples came with predefined pressure and saturation; either by constant or imported vector.

But my ECLIPSE data file contains EQUIL keyword for initialization; thus, no initial pressure and saturation for each active cell available.

Due to the complexity of the model, I was suggested to obtain states from restart file using "convertRestartToStates" function.

I got an error message showing that the vectors read from ECLIPSE restart file and ACTNUM read by "readEclipseDeck" function are different.

The number of the active cells from ECLIPSE is less than what was identified as ACTNUM due to MINPV, NNC, and transmissibility.

As a result, I cannot proceed any further.

Should I try other ways of initialization or any modification I should make.

Please suggest.

Hi, Chaiyaporn,

Welcome to the MRST community.

I think MRST has the support for EQUIL keyword and I have been using it in my black-oil polymer examples. For example, if you run the polymer example blackoilpolymerTutorial2D under module ad-eor, you will download the dataset.

You can find the DATA files for this example mrst-2016b/examples/data/BlackoilPolymer2d/BOPOLYMER.DATA . You will see for this example, it uses EQUIL for initialization.

If MRST does not work with your deck file contains EQUIL, maybe you can share your deck or EQUIL keyword setup, so someone here can help to figure out the causes.

And you can a few more example contains both EQUIL and ACTNUM from the example of a polymer paper in the bottom of the page http://www.sintef.no/projectweb/mrst/modules/ad-eor/ .

Hi Kai,

When I used "initEclipseState" keyword, I was able to get the states, however, ended up getting a problem on the linear solver (CPRSolverAD).

Is it possible to send you a DATA file and see if your team can complete the run?
