Does equipment exist for the automatic recording of shogi games? In international chess this is done by electronic boards, that are attached to a computer. Nowadays I guess another option would be the use of dedicated image analysis software, which creates a list of the moves from a video of the game.

Hi Daniel,

Would indeed be great.

Still, differences with chess are that drops and koma promotion
detection may be big challenges for board based software.
Image analysis indeed may be an option.

Hello!

I'm sorry to interrupt your correspondence.
Just wanted to mention, that there is a service called Heroz Kishin Eye, that uses image recognition technologies to record kifu of the games.
Currently it's in use in JSA since 2021.
I'm not sure if it's available as a public service though.

Hello Ihor,

nothing to be sorry about; this kind of information is eactly what I am looking for. Also a good example for why it is hard to find - Heroz does have an English version of their website, but the list of products there does not mention Kishin Eye.

Hello Ihor ,

That service you mentioned definitely has a lot of potential!

Hello everyone,

I contact the Heroz company. Kishin eye is not on the store and there is no plan to release it.

As I said I have no time right now to do it, but I have some ressources to share :

open CV image detection

board reshaping

opencv image orientation

protocole usi (how computer "encrypt" the bord with pieces)

Hope it helps!

Gilles
