Tried to install shinyapps according to instructions in Getting Started Guide ... but getting an error.

> devtools::install_github('rstudio/shinyapps')
Installing github repo shinyapps/master from rstudio
Error in function (type, msg, asError = TRUE)  : couldn't connect to host

Also tried the above by supplying my Github username/password to install_github().  Got same error.  Using devtools 1.4.1.

Might anyone know what's going on?

thanks

Looks like there may be an issue connecting to github. Are you able to visit https://github.com/rstudio/shinyapps?

Thanks
-Andy

Connecting to github separately was no issue.  I can navigate to https://github.com/rstudio/shinyapps without any problems.  The problem only occurs when running devtools::install_github().

I tried running that function on another package, Hadley Wickham's pryr package, and got same results.  So it looks like the problem is not specific to shinyapps.  But I've no idea what it could be.

It it possible that you have some type of proxy settings that are affecting the ability for you to connect with R?

I can't imagine what that would be.

Can you paste the output of:

Sys.getenv("http_proxy")
Sys.getenv("HTTP_PROXY")

Thanks.

Mauricio,

I'm afraid I am a bit stumped. This is clearly a problem with either your R installation, or something with devtools. I might suggest logging an issue in the devtools GitHub project

Switched to a different network, one without a proxy, and install_github('rstudio/shinyapps') worked.

Had the exact same problem. Connecting over the proxy was problematic. We had to disable the firewall.

Best Wishes

Marcus
