Hi,

I am trying to add user authentication and password protection to a tool that I am building. I am going by the method outlined in this page : https://github.com/rstudio/shinyapps/blob/master/guide/guide.md

I am getting the following error on using the function :
"Error in hashPassword(password) :
  function 'enterRNGScope' not provided by package 'Rcpp' "

On further inspection, I found that maybe there is something wrong with the most updated version of Rcpp package (Rcpp v 0.11.0). I tried solving it with some solutions off the web but it screwed my whole app. Is anybody else facing a similar problem ? Can anybody help me rectify it ? This is very important as my client would not allow this tool to be used without password protection and this is the only sticking point. Really greatful for any help.

Thanks a lot,
Ameek Singh

Ameek,
I am not an expert on the R side, but my understanding is that the Rcpp v.0.11.0 update was pretty intrusive and requires a re-install of all the packages that rely on it.  If I were a betting man, I would bet that re-installing the various packages that you have in your app will fix the issue.

Hi Tareef,

Thanks for the quick response. I updated all the packages using the incredibly convenient option in RStudio but unfortunately, it is still showing me that same error. So the issue is still standing. I am just guessing, but is there a way to install an outdated version of a package? Are the older versions available on CRAN and any method by which I can install it manually?

Thanks !
Ameek Singh

Hi Ameek,

You should be able to install older versions of packages by downloading the archived version from http://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive and installing it manually using RStudio or install.packages().

Thanks,
Ian

Hi All,

I just pushed a fix for the scrypt package that should fix the compatibly issues with Rcpp 0.11.0.

Please reinstall the scrypt package using the command:

devtools::install_github('rstudio/rscrypt')

This issue is fixed with the latest version of scrypt (just pushed to GitHub), so please reinstall scrypt package. However, I just wanted to note that you can use devtools to do this:

devtools::install_version('Rcpp', '0.10.6')
