Hello SF2G brain trust,

So, my Cedar Cycling kit is finally getting old enough to be a bit worn out.

I keep burning through Rapha jerseys, the material quality just isn't great.

Is there anything out there with the durability of the classic SF2G Cedar Cycling?

My faves from the last years have been Pedal Mafia and Cuore (the last SF2G brand, I think).

Yeah, this is something I care about. Ibex used to make cycling
specific kit, and their stuff is durable (though not forever lasting,
10ish years). Poshmark or other clothing upcycling sites for lightly
used stuff?

Maybe someone knows someone from cedar (an Oakland company) and can
point in the right direction? I know the company is closed but maybe
someone associated with it could point to a current equivalent.

I've been super happy with ornot (SF based and mostly US made). Not the cheapest, not the most expensive, definitely subtle. Also not a particularly euro pro fit, while not being turbo-MAMIL. Real nice people at the store on Clement, across from Arsicault.

Their Mission short is my go to for hikes, gravel rides, and just about anything I can justify them for, and all my pairs still look brand new.

weirdly coincidently they (ibex and ornot) have a sale running at https://www.bioliteenergy.com/pages/better-with-friends

i don't know most of those brands so can't comment on who they've teamed up w/ but at least my opinion of ornot is that they woudlnt do it just for the $s.

rapha bores me since they hired the person from arc'teryx to design
their clothes.

re: ibex
ibex originally went out of business and the brand was bought and
restarted in a different state.
the new person who owns the brand still makes good stuff but they
aren't making cycling clothes and i can't imagine they will in the
future (they went out of business originally because they had too many
skus and cycling isn't core to the brand).

i've also been using a lot of ornot as of late and generally like their stuff.

i had also been using 7mesh but they aren't going to ship to the US
anymore because of tariffs.

everyone in SF seems to wear PAS Normal these days since they opened
their store in lower haight.
they have some fun stuff (but never available in my size) and some
stuff I really don't understand (boring colors with big block
advertisements on the backs). disco stu doesn't like advertising or
definitely does want to be a rolling billboard in a boring color.

One last contender for style points: Twin Six has some beaaaautiful jerseys. The quality is not as refined as a rapha or so, but they feel pragmatical and are long lasting. I personally have purchased a bunch of the womens designs two sizes up because those are prettier and they fit pretty good (yai stretchy fabrics!)

yeah twin six has beautiful fabrics but my problem is that they have
never been particularly form fitting for me.
that in itself disqualifies them for consideration.

i have a particular disdain for bike clothing manufacturers that have
no understanding or appreciation for larger folks. if i order a 2xl,
i am not 6 foot 1 and 150 lbs (maybe tour de france riders but that i
am not) equally a xl also does not need to be for 6 foot 3 and 350 lbs
(i am not a football player).

On the topic of quality kit, please enjoy this photo of Mark Kahn and myself (and a few others) proudly obeying rule #17 in our RAAM team kit:

IMG_1664 (1).jpg

We have jerseys, shorts/bibs, socks, and even arm warmers.

And while I have the floor, I'll sneak in a little fundraising plug!  There are just 4 days left in our April raffle.  For every $100 donated on our behalf, you'll get one entry into our raffle for two tickets on Alaska Airlines, anywhere they fly (hint - it's way more than just Alaska).

SF2G folks have been big backers of this team, both last year and this year.  Not too late to join the party!

Cheers,
Andy
