Super19 upgrade problems

Hey folks, does anyone here know anything about the Super19 upgrade
ROM for the H19? I've been trying to get it running in an older (dual
2716) H19 board, but it's completely dead. I re-did the jumpers per the
documentation, and verified that a stock 4KB ROM from a different H19
works in this terminal. But there's no response at all with the Super19
EPROM installed. Not even any CRT heater.

I've programmed the hex file into three different 2732s with the same
result.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Dave, do you have the Super-19 manual? It has some info on jumper settings etc. I think I have a copy if you need it.

The stock Heath ROMs were 3-supply parts, so the jumpers definitely need to be changed to use a single-supply 2732.

I would be looking at all of the jumper and switch settings to verify the configuration along with ROM / EPROM types and part numbers.

Hi Lee, yes I followed that manual to the letter. I'm aware of the 2716/2732 differences. I was getting pulled in five different directions when I did the jumpers, but I did check them twice before trying it. And it does work with a 4KB PROM.

Gotcha. I may be able to do that tonight.

What I did try in the meantime is putting the stock H19 code into a 2732. It is still unresponsive with that, but it is generating sync. (filament is hot)

So it looks like we're down to a difference between the H19 masked ROM, which works, and (what I believe to be) the same code in a 2732 that doesn't.


Was the Super19 upgrade shipped as an EPROM? I'm wondering about voltages and such between a 5V-only 2732 and whatever masked ROM Heath used. I'll hit the schematic when I can get to a desk.

I'm just starting to look at the jumpers on the schematic. With the
jumpers set as the Super19 instructions dictate, I wind up with A11 on
pin 18 of U422's socket. A11 is on pin 21 of a 2732. Grr.

Yes it looks like pins 18 and 21 are swapped, from a 2732 to whatever
masked ROM they used. Now to figure out how to implement that with the
jumper scheme and give it a try. My eyes are getting a bit tired for
this tonight but I would like to get it done.

Ok, that was it, it works now.

So for the sake of the archives, if your write the Super19 firmware
that's floating around into a TMS2532, NOT a 2732, and set the jumpers
as detailed in the Super19 manual, it will work. It will NOT work with
a 2732, unless some jumpers are rearranged to swap CS2 with A11. If you
do that, I think that it SHOULD work, but I have not tested it.

Thanks to prolific LSSM volunteer Owen Michael for noticing the
A11<->CS2 swap and remebering the somewhat odd TMS2532.

That’s consistent with the H8 z80 board where I had to use a 2516 when I added the CF boot ROM.
