Committee chairs

We need committee chairs!  To repeat myself: we will have four committees to do the work of WG2:  F ("foundation") for matters internal to the Scheme language; E ("environment") for matters such as I/O that reflect the bridge between Scheme and its environments; B ("batteries") for portable libraries useful for application development; C ("cleanup/consistency"), what it says on the tin.

I am appointing myself chair of Committee B, which inherits much of the agenda and procedure of undivided WG2.  The other committees must establish their own procedures, appropriately similar or different, formal or informal.  Just be sure to keep records in stable places: much of the history of the R6RS committee has been lost because the volunteer who provided email and web service disappeared from the Scheme community.  I *strongly* recommend that all discussion be open at all times: nobody should be blindsided by a committee action they didn't see coming.

All these committees have plenty of work to do at this point.  In order for that to happen, we need committee chairs!  People who will commit to undertake the work and stick with it are asked to respond to this message, and I will appoint them (at my discretion).

I hope this relaunch will help to keep people enthusiastic about the new WG2.  Come out, come out, wherever you are: stand up and be counted, help to shape the R7RS-Large language.

Thank you, John, for having taken the initiative and moving things forward.

I don't want to jump the queue but would nevertheless like to declare
that I am willing to serve as committee F's chair should WG2 trust my
aptitude for such a job. The reason for my application is that a lot
of the non-portable things on the proposed agenda for F are based on
SRFIs written by me. Furthermore, as should be clear from my posts on
this list, having a consistent core with clear semantics is something
that is important to me and so I would be willing to invest some
energy for quite some time to come. I think I have a good in-depth
understanding of both R6RS and R7RS which would hopefully help build
strong and broad foundations for the rest of the large project. I
agree with everything you said regarding openness.

That said, I'm willing to make my contribution under any chair, of course.

I accept Daphne as chair of Committee C.   I agree that a single issue tracker is a Good Thing.   Daphne has volunteered to try to find a site that is both institutionally stable and run on free software.

I second Marc as chair of the Foundation committee and volunteer myself as chair of the Cleanup committee. I also welcome John as chair of the Batteries committee.

I feel I have probably collected a larger organized list of cleanup/consistency issues in libraries adopted so far, and in libraries on future ballots in the ColorDockets list, than anyone else has been able to so far. A consistent language overall is also an important goal of mine. I also enjoy good working relationships with both Marc as potential chair of the Foundation committee and with John as chair of the Batteries committee, which I feel is particularly important given the need for the Cleanup committee to work closely with and across both areas of R7RS development.

Could I suggest that all three/four committees at least agreed to shared use of a single issue tracker so as to ease cooperation? (We can use issue tags or categories etc. to keep track of which issue is in which sub-committee’s bailiwick.)

I've read the precious mails, but I still have insufficient information about the potential work of committee E. I guess maybe it's one of the reasons why there's no volunteer.

Anyway, we may open a thread of E to make some initial work till we have a chair.
