The "master" git branch has been updated to Sage-9.7. As always, you can get the latest beta version from the "develop" git branch. Alternatively, the self-contained source tarball is at http://www.sagemath.org/download-latest.html

There was no change over 9.7.rc2

627b2bdfe92 (tag: 9.7, trac/master, trac/develop) Updated SageMath version to 9.7

I just downloaded sage-9.7.tar.gz from a mirror. Is it deliberate
that this tarball contains the entire git repository? (This was also
true for 9.6 and 9.5 at least, I think). I would have thought that a
release tarball need not contain the git repo stuff, just the files
needed to build, which would presumably make for a smaller tarball
than 1.4G.

You are fortunate. I constantly have

sage -t --random-seed=174323800149221866205482120593739177259 src/sage/game_theory/normal_form_game.py  # 2 doctests failed
sage -t --random-seed=174323800149221866205482120593739177259 src/sage/game_theory/catalog_normal_form_games.py  # 15 doctests failed

and sage 9.7 is not different.  The failed doctests require the optional package "lrslib" installed. So these doctests need "optional - lrslib" tag.

Is it right that you installed the optional package? Then I will open a ticket for this.
