I'm in the que for a Clem L that's to arrive in August. I went for the Chameleon Green. Anyone else Clem waiting? What are your build plans or tweaks or just straight stock?

I can’t believe this thread doesn’t have a whole a lot of replies! My brother-in-law has a Clementine that my sister has stolen from him. He put up resistance at first, but he usually takes his motorized scooter to work, so he gave in and let her ride his bike. His Clem has become hers for weeks now. However, when I showed her the chameleon green Clementines from Riv’s website, she was wrecked. She really loved the bike in that bronze green color. My BIL ordered her one as a surprise for their 11th anniversary! I may have possibly planted the idea in his head after I read the email saying there were only four left of chameleon green Clementines in my sister’s size. We are ending up with an obscene amount of Clems in my family.

Which bike did you order?

I missed that you typed “L”, so disregard my questions about what bike you got. This will teach to me read and writes posts on dog walks! But you can tell us here what you plan to use your Clem for and how it will be set up.

I pre-ordered a green Clem L for my wife.

(My son has a silver one a size up that I secretly ride and love. When I gave it to him he said, Really, it’s for me? SICK! (Apparently current young slang for surprising/unusual and excellent))

It is a surprise for my wife and I cannot wait til it is here, she will love it. I’m getting it Riv fully stock built, adding a Pletscher rack and basket/Mark’s rack, Grip Monarchs and SKS P65 fenders from Riv. Will use her grey Brooks B12 with titanium rails bought from Riv 19 years ago and BOB’S YOUR UNCLE.

If I were ordering one for myself, I would get that pretty blue. Or I wish I were ordering a Cheviot in that color for myself. But I bought three bikes this month and need to take a few deep breaths.

I have the 52cm green one on order for my son who got a bike stolen from outside his apartment last year and no longer owns a bike. I already have three Rivs - a 46 Appaloosa, a 47cm Roadini and a 55cm Cheviot, but this is the first Riv a family member is receiving.

After riding the rev stem Clem at HQ, and having more time to kill until the Clem L's arrive, I've got a reverse stem ClemL in mind for hilly riding after beelining it to the trailhead. I think the batch lands in about three weeks now?

I'm also in need of some pedals for such riding. I'm leaning toward the MKS monarchs with a Brooks cambium to complete the build. Oh, Sunrace bar end shifters in 48cm Noodles bars all else stock once I put some 2.1 knobbie tires too.

That sounds like a great build. I'm thinking about getting a fun bit for some trail riding myself, and could definitely see the merits of a build like this. Definitely was a bit bummed to see the last of them sell out before I could stop waffling on whether or not I should get one.

The Indiana dealer may have a Clem L available for you. I just inherited my mother in law’s Clementine (first gen Clem L) and it’s absolutely my favorite bike. It’s a dream, really. I think you should give Chris a call and after that, see if 718 or Analog Cycles has a bike left from the pre order! Good luck and I hope you snag one.

Go big or go home

Also it happens to be the longest non-tandem production Rivendell that I’m aware of

Has anyone heard from HQ about what date the Clems will arrive? I don’t have any skin in the game, but my sister has a chameleon green bike on order!

I’m so excited for all of you (or your family members as Paul and Dorothy have it) to receive your Clems! Your wait is nearly done. I inherited my mother-in-law’s Clementine this summer and I have been riding the wheels off of it and IT IS SO FUN. I just fly around on that bike, so don’t listen to anyone who thinks the Clems are stout and sluggish. I FLY. I love everything about the bike; it’s practical and beautiful and classy.

Anyway, you have so much to look forward to that I can hardly stand it. Please, please report back here and tell us how your beautiful Clems are treating you.

Clem L's arrive very soon. In the meantime I wrenched on my wife's bike and made some upgrades. Here's what I accomplished so far.

Before:

After:

I just grabbed parts from the bin. Dirt drop stem, Albatross bars, Silver Chainring Bashguard, Sneaker pedals, Tektro brakes, etc... I hope she likes it.

Anyone have experience with the Clem L and a Surly Trucker?  I am thinking of replacing my wife's Trucker with a Clem.  It's pertty much used for shorter rides around town and 10-20 mile rides occsionally.

Does she want to swap out her bike?

If so, is she using her LHT for shopping? Carrying anything? I am using a Clementine for my sons’ school commute. The bike is magical and even though it’s heavy, I have no trouble climbing hills with it. Whatever stupid weight I saddle it with, the bike absorbs it like it’s not even there. This morning, with a front rack, and 2 Backabike bags on the rear, I hauled: 2 U-locks, a Chromebook, a lunchbox, one violin and one clarinet. And then my own phone and keys, naturally. I only noticed the weight when I lifted the rear end of the bike to turn it at a crosswalk. The bike never complains; it’s dog-like how it just exists to please you and make your life happy.

There, you can read her that.

My boyfriend is replacing his Disc Trucker with a Clem L 52cm. On test rides, he said the Clem climbed better and accelerated faster, while still being able to carry a lot. That's been his main complaint with the Trucker-it's great for carrying a lot, but is tortoise-like. Since we mostly ride around town, with a few longer trips (20-40 miles) a year for camping, I think he's going to find the Clem fits the bill better.

Anxiously #ClemWaiting until the bike comes in to Rivelo and then we will BOTH have them! :)

There is something about the clem feeling lighter than it is. The only time i notice that it's heavy is when have to pick it up to go up the steps into work. When riding it feels like a lighter bike than it is, and it rides equally well loaded or unloaded.

i concur that the clem L feels light for what it is. i think because it lacks a top tube it gives up a bit more flex which makes pedaling easier.

I think my Clem H feels super light, too. I don’t know a thing about frame geometry but I assume there’s a special balance it has. I “graduated” my wife from a rescued Jamis Commuter to her own Clem H and she feels the same way about it feeling light.

I don't pretend to know how all this works, but that bike feels like it absorbs energy and spits it back out into a magical little tailwind. It's neat!

J!!! Did you have yours shipped or did you pick it up in person? My sister is in Minneapolis and waiting for hers. Rivendell didn’t give her an ETA but they are shipping hers without the usual routine of opening and inspecting the box. I hope they shipped hers! Then she and her husband will both have Clem Ls and all will be well with the world.

Well, if anyone watching here is having their bike shipped, let us know if you got a tracking number or if the bike just appeared. Wondering if it’s too much to hope my sister gets her Clem L for next weekend! (Hers will ship to LBS for assembly, though I think they’ll move quick because it’s Gene Oberpillar’s shop and he loves him a Rivendell).

You are all going to LOVE your bikes. I can’t wait for folks to update this thread and let us know their first impressions.

I’m dying to see what the “chameleon green” looks like - share lots of photos, friends! There can’t be too many.

Happy Saturday, All.

Has anyone else gotten a Clem in the mail?
